Photo by Genevieve Wang ("gengen") 2009 Christmas Tour

A short time ago, Angelica posed a question on The Voice in the comments:  “Was David reserved to come along at a time when the Internet was here, in order that we could have so much access to him? And love him more than was possible before this technology arrived?”

The answer I arrived at is, yes and yes!  I too like to think it was cosmic design that he was reserved to come to us when the technology had finally caught up with the human capacity for sharing life and love.  The Internet is the difference between “Oh, he’s got a great voice” and having him inhabiting our entire psyche.  I don’t know about other artists, but a search of him in YouTube shows 4,370,000 results; Google shows 4,210,000 results.  AI brought him to us, but it is in cyberspace where our fondness turns to love and inexplicable attachment.

As Angelica said, “If not for the internet, we would have all returned to our usual lives before AI, not forgetting him, but not obsessing over him either.  Everything would have turned out so differently.  But it didn’t.  Why?  I believe, without deifying him, he has a message of love and healing the world needs to hear and in order for that message to be disseminated, he needs the Internet and all the angels it has gathered to him.”

Thanks to the Internet, he shares the story of his life with us, in real time.  The story is profound at times and trivial at others.  We know when he gets up because he says good morning to us.  We know what he eats for breakfast because he tells us he is eating oatmeal with blueberries.  He informs us he mixes up the conditioner and lotion in the shower.  We know when he wakes up from a nap.  He bids us good night before going to bed.  The Internet breeds familiarity but, rather than contempt, familiarity with David breeds love, for to know him is to love him.   Although he doesn’t tell us, we find out he sneaks out of his tour and goes visiting some of the lonely and forgotten souls among us.

We have reassessed our priorities.  When packing essentials for a trip, a power cord is as indispensable as a tooth brush and we fuss about reliable WiFi.  At home when our power goes out, we lament not the thawing of the refrigerator but the lack of internet access.  Priorities, schmiorities.

Our most vital body part is now our index finger.  He shows up with the slightest touch, materializing from nowhere and everywhere, singing, humming, dancing, jumping, running, sweating, laughing, talking, rambling, and just being.  Click.  He is a romantic figure, leading us through Fields of Gold.  Click.  He is a devout choir boy.  Click.  He is solving the existential riddle.  Click.  He is telling us the greatest story ever told.  Thanks to the Internet, he stands by ready to soothe, lift, comfort, and exhilarate, depending on what our heart requires at the time.

VIPs play havoc with our senses, because he leaps off the Internet and bounces into the room.  The three by three inch, two-dimensional David from our computer screen is now a 3 dimensional warm body, wrapping his big hand behind our back.  But oh, where is the replay button after he sings Crazy?  We greet him like a friend because, surely, we know him.  But why does he treat us like old friends too? Standing before that ILAA screen, we touch him, hug him, and just try to hang on to the flesh-and-blood David for as long as we can, and he happily indulges us.  After he looks at us and touches our hands, we are satisfied for the moment.  We return to our computers, and wait, with increased longing, for the next encounter…

Of modern celebrities, W. Somerset Maugham said:  “It is dangerous to let the public behind the scenes.  They are easily disillusioned and then they are angry with you, for it was the illusion they loved.”  David is the anti-celebrity.  There is no illusion and no disillusion about him.  He lets us behind the scenes and bravely shares his life.  And here is the irony:  He makes use of the latest technology yet his life and story hark back to a simpler time.  He shares with us the excitement of seeing a giant grape, a guy rollerblading down the street, a parade going by; the pleasure of eating roasted corn on the cob and cherry limeade.  He is amazed by the first snow on the mountain tops, the yellow hills against the blue sky, and the ocean and the stars in one glance.  He takes us back to a time when life was less complicated, when the beauty of the world was appreciated; when art still touched us, and when how we treated each other mattered.  Is our addiction actually a yearning for a time when goodness was good enough?

Does the Internet cause ODD?  This much we know:  the Internet tells the story of David so we read on, unable to put the book down, and with a click, we turn another page.

gahhhh I love every word! Gotta re-read this later when I am alone without distractions. The attachment we have to him is fierce.

THIS: “we touch him, hug him, and just try to hang on to the flesh-and-blood David for as long as we can” These ILAA folks don’t get it do they? 30 seconds just ain’t cuttin’ it!

Do you know what you just did YJfanofdavid?

Somehow you just made it possible to love him even more…

What a breathtaking, beautiful writing about David including the humor that you see in us, the DA fan. I am going to print it off so that I can show it to people as time goes by. When his real book does appear it will be a wonderful, cherished keepsake read time and time again.

Thank you YJ, this is awesome including the pictures.

I want to mention at this time that the sites “The Voice” and the Canadian site “Snow Angelz”, should be commended for giving us the most amazing and sincere writings about David found anywhere on the internet.

    YJfanofdavid,
what a beautifully written, thoughtful piece! Loved every word!

I’ve also wondered about the role of the Internet in all this, and if we’d be so enamored without it …

… and I’ve come to the conclusion that the sublime musical juggernaut that is David is simply meant to be … and if that means the Internet needed to be invented to make it happen, so be it! 😆

Perfect Somerset Maugham quote!: “It is dangerous to let the public behind the scenes. They are easily disillusioned and then they are angry with you, for it was the illusion they loved.”

I think that David — just by his very forthright nature — doesn’t do “illusions” … but that’s not to say some fans will conjure up those illusions all by themselves.

Wow thank you for this beautiful article. I so relate to the line ”Is our addiction actually a yearning for a time when goodness was good enough?” Our world has deteriorated at such a astonishing speed that I do yearn for that time in my childhood where goodness was good enough. And you are right David gives me that feeling that I had oh so many years ago. Thank you for putting my feeling down in writing. Beautiful just beautiful!

Thank you all for your very kind words. {{group hugs}} This is actually a homework project Angelica assigned to me after she suffered a temporary loss of her high-speed Internet connection and wondered about the correlation between ODD and the Internet. Thank you Angelica for making me think and write…

Angelica also picked the gorgeous pictures of David above and added some lovely sentences of her own. So I can’t really take full credit for the post. 🙂

What a wonderfully moving piece. Marylee, I have the tears right along with you too!!! Thank you YJ– for posting such a warm, heartfelt piece.
I think many or all of David’s fans have been grappling with the reason for our ultimate facination with David. You have given us much to reflect upon, and I dare say that we all relate to what you have expressed. The reality is that David is more than just his beautiful voice. For me, I have always been “rooting for goodness to win”! I grew up in a time when Goodness was the expected norm. The society that we live in now is making “goodness” unpopular, and almost something to hide!!! David is not deterred by others to sacrifice or compromise his values or beliefs. He puts himself out there…just as he is. There is no pretense or illusion about who he is. David is the definition of GOODNESS in my mind. That is a rarity in our society. I am hopeful that by David just “being himself”, he will be able to help others. I am already seeing it happening. .

Thanks for this beautifully written piece. Loved every word of it. I, too, like so many others think it is about David’s goodness, his morals and values and beliefs that he holds true to, as well as his voice. He reminds us of days when treating people with kindness and humanity is what it’s all about. I respect him so much for just being who he is. This article is to be treasured!!

By the way, what pictures…..I only see one picture in this article.

Thank you for this article. I’m at work so I can’t cry but there are tears in my eyes. David Archuleta is beyond words…I’ve used all the most beautiful adjectives I can think of…but he is more. He makes me happy just by his smile, his silly vblogs, and just the moments he allows us into his life. We could all thank David forever and ever…and he would probably still think, “I’m just David.” He is so much more…he brings joy into a world with difficult times for many. I could lose all my physical worldly goods…but no one can ever take away my heart & soul about how I feel about David. He is all that is good — he is truly an Angel for us all.

Silverfox – I saw your post about telling those folks about David and their reaction – a 14 yo and her mom I think? I hate to think of you giving that a second thought! The unenlightened will never get us. I don’t even try anymore. Bless you for trying. He will gain all the fans he is meant to gain and we will still be here. We loved him before it was cool. Age doesn’t matter. So what he’s young? People can be very short-sighted and ageist and sexist. All we can do is keep our heads up high. I don’t even care if people think I am strange, a cougar, a perv, whatever, for loving him. I honestly don’t. Peace to you! 🙂

    YJfanofdavid,

There are no words to describe how your beautiful words made me feel..just that I kept repeating, YES! YES! YES! Exactly! YES!

David was a gift given to us at a time when so much of the world is in turmoil, when some of us were and are still dealing with difficulties in our lives. I shudder to think where we would be without the technology of the Internet & cyberspace. I used to think the world was spinning out of control with all the technological advances, the ability to have visual contact at a click of a button with someone on the other side of the world. I used to think, “What is to become of our privacy?” Now I thank GOD for giving us the world of Cyberspace as it has allowed David to come into & remain in our lives at a click of a button or mouse. 🙂

There is however, one little drawback. The more David gives us, the more we want. We yearn for his tweets, for his blogs & more so for his Video blogs. In fact, isn’t it about time for a new Vlog? 😆

I too absolutely loved this!! It is so true. I trueky believe David is here at this time to do exactly what he is doing and the Internet is such a valuable tool in his sharing his goodness with us!!! I an tending 3 of my precious grandbabies right now and this so brought me to tear. Just thinking of all the goodness in their special little hearts and I can’t help but compare David, even though he is 19, to the perfect little spirits that they are and the pure love they give to every one like he does to all the people he comes in contact with!! He is such a unique young man in this day and age. I have a son just 6 months
older than David and he doesn’t exude even half the goodness and love David does. My son is so full of himself he doesn’t even think of others and what might make them happy very often. I feel like that is all David does is do what he can to bring joy to others, especially his family, and his friends and his fans and the list would never end where he is concerned!!! I seem to be rambling a bit, but this just really touched me!!!!!

I did very little editing; you know this is a work straight from your own heart. The minuscule things I added are of little consequence and I can not even take credit for the photos, as they are the work of the incomparable Gengen. In these two passages, you capture so vividly the essence of David, and why we have come to love him so much…

“He shows up with the slightest touch, materializing from nowhere and everywhere, singing, humming, dancing, jumping, running, sweating, laughing, talking, rambling, and just being….

SF, thanks for Love Me Tender. I had to watch it twice. It has been too long since I relived that moment. His first time singing a romantic song on AI and with the addition of SBM that night,(excluding the finale,) his finest week on the show, IMO. You know I gotta add the other performance from the King that night.

I heartily concur, our children gave us a computer when my husband was taking treatment for cancer, thinking he would enjoy looking up his interests while recovering. But, it wasn’t to be and I hardly used it after his passing.. Enter David.. into my life. At first all I had was my DVR’s of AI, and I couldn’t get enough. Then one day I got brave and decided to look him up on the computer..one thing led to another..and here I am writing on a fan site. I can’t even begin to tell you what joy this young man has brought to my life when it was needed. YJfanofdavid, every beautiful word you wrote certainly pertains to me, he genuinely is a message of love and healing.. YJ: Brilliant article! I still think there is a master plan that led us all to David and to each other, the web being part of the plan, as it keeps us in contact on a daily basis.

“At home when our power goes out, we lament not the thawing of the refrigerator but the lack of internet access.”

haha So true! Who needs food, anyway? The pull to the web is so strong because David lives there! Have I mentioned how impatient I get when I turn my computer on? I’m pretty quick but my fingers somehow don’t move quickly enough for me. The anticipation is overwhelming at times.

    “Does the Internet cause ODD?”

I certainly think the Internet feeds our ODD but I can hardly think of a better meal!

“Is our addiction actually a yearning for a time when goodness was good enough?”

Yes!! YJ, that question was spot-on! David represents good morals and he satisfies a hungry yearning deep in our souls for peace and understanding.

There were the days following the Christmas tour, when the nights were spent reviewing and loving and laughing at the wonderful videos that would come in a mile a minute on site after site. Hours of sleep were lost for the ever anxious fan who wanted to see all about the concert in any of the cities on any given night. It was a fantastic time and Christmas for all of us had a renewed spirit taking us back in time.

But then, everything went quiet and we became restless changing our pace, slowing our pace in regards to repeatedly taking ourselves to the computer to find out about David’s latest adventures. Is he missing the stage, the hype and the times we sang along with him? Thank you for tweeting David you know us well…

So now we are looking and reading about all that this fine fellow really is to people. Repeatedly again we see ourselves in the writings of others and that is the most amazing find and a once in a lifetime experience.

When I come to a site I go to the last reply and scroll up… so I first saw this beautiful green background #23, with a silver spider web and thought, “what now, what beautiful piece of artwork has been found with a story and then I scrolled up further and well, hey, Angelica you always find hidden works of art…thank you for sharing”.

David, in this step of the journey I think that you are reviewing what we need to know about ‘patience’…I didn’t tap my foot which usually leads to my leg keeping in time to a particular beat, even once today! I am doing better!

I am so glad the post resonates with many of you. Thank you for sharing your own thoughts! I know my own fascination with this young man started, paradoxically, the day AFTER the AI finale. During AI, I thought he had a great voice and rooted for him, because he looked like a good kid. The day after, I casually googled him just wanting to make sure he’s okay. All these post-finale interviews videos turned up. And there he was, being interviewed on national TV right after he almost won the AI title. Was he basking in the glory? No, he was disrupting the host and calling out to someone in the audience! That’s his friend from back home and he just had to say hello, because that’s what a good friend would do, national TV or not! I know I was a goner after that ohmygodashely moment. Was he for real? Where did he even come from? Can we keep him? Well, I guess we did, in the cyberspace!

I really felt my own attachment to him stemmed from a longing for a world that existed long before Brittney Spears, Jon and Kate, and Kayne West permeated it. I want the world rebooted and restored to its factory setting… Along comes David, who, just by going about living his life, shows us the way back to that world (well, almost literally — Angelica, is that why he is always wearing that green shirt, because the Web is part of the plan? lol).

YJ, What an article! What a time for David and all of us to be connecting. And what it must be like for David to be able to reach out to his fans at his every whim (and how lucky for us all!)

It is the internet that keeps all us fans connected with eachother! No matter where we travel, for concerts or otherwise, we have instant friends and heart connections. I have had the pleasure of connecting with fans clear across the country. How cool is that?

I just met up with Nina, (one of my earliest David “cyber-friends”) last night while in the City. She talked about how much the fan community contributes to our individual experience and enjoyment of all things David.

It is true. Without the internet to connect us all with each other’s words of wisdom, humor, support, friendship, and even sanity, all of this just wouldn’t be nearly as satisfying.

Oh this topic is so full of win!

When AI was over, I started getting depressed over the thought of not seeing David on TV every Tuesday night. I didn’t want to lose him in my life. Yes, his voice was beautiful but there was something about his spirit that enraptured me and drew me to him with a very powerful force that I didn’t really understand. But I knew that I had to keep track of him, had to follow his career, and like YJ, I had to know he was okay. Never did I expect my computer to inhabit a fanbase who felt as strongly as I did! And never did I expect such an outpouring of emotion from people who became instant {{{{friends}}}}!

    “Does the Internet cause ODD?”

I “suffer” daily from this affliction. Many hours spent mining YouTube and Google, seeking out something, anything, new about David. Using the net to stay connected to my new “friends” consumes just as much of my day. Outside of cyberspace, I talk to folks in my daily travels about David’s music. It happened again this week at the grocery deli counter. I had offered a CD to one of the ladies behind the counter and when another clerk saw it, she said “OH David Archuleta! He is CUTE! Too bad he didn’t win!” I cringed and asked her if she even recalled the name of the “winner”. She gave me a blank stare. I explained that more than anything he is a great singer and promised her a Cd by next week. She is very happy!
On another note, my long time friend who has resisted my “David talk” has fallen into line, finally. I gave her a CD and this is what she wrote to me in an email:

“I thought that nobody could sing “Fields of Gold” better than Sting. I was wrong, as your David just blew him away. He is phenomenal.”

So there we have 3 new fans. Not bad for a week of just talking about his music and sharing his talent.

Crayola Doesn’t Make a Color For Your Eyes
    by Kristin Andreassen

I went to see the doctor. I’d come down with the blues.
She said “No, I can’t cure you, but I know something you can do.
Take out a piece of paper, and sit down for a while,
And draw a pretty picture of something that makes you smile.”
Well, I know what makes me happy. Didn’t have to think for long.
But when I tried to draw it, it always came out wrong.
    I had a box of 12, 48 and 64,
But nowhere could I find that one shade I was looking for.
I guess I realized shoulda come as no surprise
Crayola doesn’t make a color for your eyes.
There is no way that I could possibly describe you.
Crayola doesn’t make a color to draw my love.

At first I thought of Green Blue, but then I saw Blue Green.
And then sometimes in bright light, they look Aquamarine.
I think at night they’re darker. I looked again for you.
Saw Grey and Black and went out walkin’ after Midnight Blue
But the hues of the deepest skies would be a compromise
Crayola doesn’t make a color for your eyes.
There is no way that I could possibly describe you.
Crayola doesn’t make a color to draw my love.

Spring Green is much too yellow, Sea Green is far too pale.
Cornflower’s way too mellow, so I’ll try again and fail.
There’s no way I can capture the way you make me feel.
One look from you is rapture, whether Blue or Green or Teal.
No color qualifies. That crayon’s telling lies
Crayola doesn’t make a color for your eyes

Hey look, it’s Periwinkle. So sure I got it now.
But you wink and there’s a twinkle in your eye and still, somehow,
I just can’t get that sparkle. Those glitter crayons won’t.
Maybe Glow-In-The-Dark’ll get it right. Aw, no they don’t.
Mr. Crayola tries, but I’m left to fantasize
    Crayola doesn’t make a color

For your eyes, something darker let’s see what I can find.
Melted mahogany and got the depth not the shine.
Just about gave up and then I peeled the paper off a little end of…
Really thought it coulda been… ahh, not even Burnt Sienna!
Your passport says they’re brown, but I’m gonna keep lookin’ round…
Crayola doesn’t make a color for your eyes
There is no way that I could possibly describe you
Crayola doesn’t make a color to draw my love

Crayola doesn’t make a color for your eyes
There is no way that I could possibly describe you
Crayola doesn’t make a color to draw my love

yjfanofdavid!! {{{hugs}}} from the bottom of my heart for this post. It completely wraps up in fine tissue and purple bows what is, and has been, in my heart for going on two years. A Love For David Archuleta that started with AI and has been fueled by the internet. A love that is impatient because he is ‘quiet’ for the time being and teases us with random tweets (yeah, I found an Emerald City Smoothie shop about 30 min. away–I will be going there–sigh). A love that requires daily doses of David (this site is a great place to get them–thanks to all of you). And most of all, a love that has made me work at being a better person because David’s example makes me want to be a better person (not so hard at home, but a work it’s a challenge–keep trying Tawna).

Every word that has been said on this post brings it on home to me, and I am 100% in agreement with them all. Thanks all for creating a great ending to a hectic week. loves to all.

Bebe! Those eyes..I can get completely lost in those gorgeous eyes!

David is still having a grand time at home. But he’s also putting in some “work” time if you count song writing as work. Maybe for some, but I would venture to guess that for David, anything having to do with music is not “work” to him. I was wondering if David is still working on his book or is it finished? Is he working on it while he’s home? I can’t imagine David NOT working on something. He is naturally hyper and seems to have the need to always be doing something productive. Not a lazy bone in his body. 😆

Good night David. Have a good & restful night’s sleep with sweet & happy dreams. Thank you for all you do and for who you are. Keep with you all our love, support & prayers always. Contigo siempre! We will be with you always!

The David’s certainly do not NEED each other. They are doing just fine on their own is all I’m saying. Besides the fact that it continues to keep AI in the mix. Jus’ sayin’.

Not gonna happen. A lot of songs will work lyrically for awhile and then become dead in the water over one phrase. I have spliced out a lyric that occurred only once, as in “In Praise of the Vulnerable Man,” but it can’t be done with recurring stanzas.

“The Internet breeds familiarity, but, rather then contempt, familiarity with David breeds love, for to know him is to love him.” 🙂

My favorite part of your article was listing the many ways David shares himself with us on an almost daily basis, for me,thanks solely to the Internet. David finds joy and value in the mundane, the “everyday” and sometimes the difficult. This has changed my view of him from an amazingly talented artist to a role model who has changes me for the better on a daily basis.

To me, David is the personification of beauty and goodness. That I can say that to all of you, without sarcasm, cynicism or hedging, says a lot for how far I have come. Thank you yjfanofdavid

I have come a long way myself. I too used to look at the world with sarcasm, cynicism, and disappointment. Nothing touched or moved me anymore. I feel I have seen it all and what I saw did not impress me. David says to us “not so fast” and forced us to take another look at the world. And I did, like many of you. A year ago, I couldn’t (or didn’t want to) even write a letter. I wouldn’t have recognized this new me.

I love the time and in between
    the calm inside me
in the space where I can breathe
    I believe there is a
    distance I have wandered
to touch upon the years of
    reaching out and reaching in
    holding out holding in
    I believe
this is heaven to no one else but me
and I’ll defend it as long as I can be
left here to linger in silence
    if I choose to
    would you try to understand
I know this love is passing time
    passing through like liquid
I am drunk in my desire…
but I love the way you smile at me
I love the way your hands reach out and hold me near…
    I believe…
    I believe
this is heaven to no one else but me
and I’ll defend it as long as
I can be left here to linger in silence
    if I choose to
    would you try to understand
Oh the quiet child awaits the day when she can break free
the mold that clings like desperation
Mother can’t you see I’ve got
to live my life the way I feel is right for me
might not be right for you but it’s right for me…
    I believe…
    I believe
this is heaven to no one else but me
and I’ll defend it as long as
I can be left here to linger in silence
    if I choose to
would you try to understand it
I would like to linger here in silence
    if I choose to
    would you understand it
    would you try to understand…

This part seems to not fit:

“Oh the quiet child awaits the day when she can break free
the mold that clings like desperation
Mother can’t you see I’ve got
to live my life the way I feel is right for me
might not be right for you but it’s right for me…”

But the rest speaks to me somehow.

Here are the lyrics as I hear them for “Your Eyes” written by Turley Richards:

Your eyes are like the brightest star in the middle of the night
Moon shines on the lake so fragile that they might break
I saw my peacefulness when I look into your eyes

Cause they laugh, they cry, they smile and so do I
They look in me for in your eyes I can see

Your eyes are like a whirlpool that draws me in to the depths of your soul
Where I can see a pot of gold
I hope you turn back when I try to steal your eyes

Cause they laugh, they cry, they smile and so do I
They look in me for in your eyes I can see
That you’re precious, so gentle, they can be so crazy and lovely, unpredictable too

I thinks it’s time you discover you are special
Look in your eyes, they laugh, they cry, they smile, so do I
They look in me for in your eyes oh I can see
Oh baby, your eyes are so special, I love you, I love you, I love you

    SCARRRRRRY CAT!!! LOL

SF…those are beautiful lyrics and they just fit David.

YJ reading your article again…so many parts that jump out.

“Thanks to the Internet, he shares the story of his life with us, in real time. Although he doesn’t tell us, we find out he sneaks out of his tour and goes visiting some of the lonely and forgotten souls among us.”

This internet connection not only breeds love for me because of his giving and caring heart but has me trying things just because he mentions them. I now drink almond milk, eat honey bunches of oats, almond butter(delicious), and I finally found a wheatgrass shot, rough but if David drank it so did I….lol

I’m actually here with at special request. If I had the video know-how, I’d do it myself, but alas, I have not:

I’ve been thinking recently how cool it would be to set Michelle Kwan’s skating performance to David’s Fields of Gold. It is certainly moving in its original form with Eva singing, but David’s voice has a way of improving perfection.

Think one of you incredibly talented folks would do that?

I even had thoughts of a David/Eva duet – either alternating verses, or a blended harmony. I know, I have fancy dreams for one with no video talent, but a girl can dream right? Besides, it’s crazy how often prayers are answered here on these boards!

But this time he’s off to a place he’s never been since we’ve “known” him. But he is so happy so I am also happy he is able to do this.

David hasn’t tweeted his last tweet yet tonight I don’t think, as he was at a concert and tomorrow is Sunday, so after tonight, we won’t hear from him until Monday. It’s going to be a very long 24-36 hours or longer. And so I’m posting the Archangels Prayer every night until David returns home to Utah & his family safe & sound.

    Good night all! For David…

    Dear lord,

    Please take care of David.
Watch over him, protect him from all harm.
Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path.
Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give.
Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him unconditionally as we, his devoted Archangels do.
Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being.

Here are the names of the chapters in David’s book “Chords of Strength”,

    Pure beginnings
    Hit with inspiration
    School of American idol
    Bumps in the road
    Hope rises
Be careful what you wish for
    Stepping it up
    Divine frequency
    The joy in sound
    Staying true

I was just coming here with a copy ready to paste when I saw you beat me to it. Thanks! Isn’t this exciting to get the table of contents! It sounds amazing. Maybe I’ll actually read a book again. Haven’t done much of that in say…a year and a half. 😆

Ain’t no maybe about it. 😉

The names of the chapters surprised me at first glance because it looks as if David wrote mostly about his experience on AI. Will he go into detail about what he personally went through behind the glamor and glitz of AI and the strength it took to carry on and not give up?

It would be interesting to know who suggested to David that he write a book. Does anyone know? I don’t think it was David’s idea. In fact, David may have been hesitant, thinking why would anyone be interested in what he has to say. Seems to me it would have to be someone close to him who had first hand knowledge of his life. Someone who realizes David has a story worth telling. A story with lessons we can all learn from. How even when doctors said, “You can’t”, David thought and believed, “I will”. That is hope & perseverance.

Makes me all the more anxious for the book. In fact I would be thrilled if this is a first book in a series with David writing a book every few years! 😉

    Monica Haim – Biography

    Monica Haim
Writer, Director & Producer: Awake Zion

Monica recently completed a master’s degree in cultural journalism at the Gallatin School at NYU. She received a BFA in Acting from the Tisch School of Arts, also at NYU. The idea for Awake Zion was the result of many years of Hebrew school and a deep-seated relationship with music. Her recent studies in ethnomusicology, music criticism, arts and social worlds reporting provided a forum where she could explore the ideas for the project with perspective from various disciplines, creative and academic. Throughout the making of the film, Monica has immersed herself in the culture of the music, following Jewish and non-Jewish reggae musicians and enthusiasts from the Sierra Nevada Mountains to New York, New Jersey, Newton, Los Angeles, Israel and Jamaica, on a continued exploration of this unlikely cultural link.

In 2004 Monica founded Twin Goat Productions, a company specializing in slice-of-life documentary projects. Upcoming projects include Meeting Me, a documentary that will explore the meaning of family through the prism of adoption; Yeah-Yeah, another music-driven piece about the underground legacy of Afrobeat music; and ECO, a documentary about perma-culture and modern organic life, as experienced through various self-sustained global villages. Two years ago Monica was published in an anthology, 9/11 8:48am: Documenting America’s Worst Tragedy (Blue Ear Press, 2001), and her essay was adapted for the London theatrical premiere, Voices from September 11th, which ran at the Old Vic on September 11th 2002. Monica freelances as an associate producer for KPI TV, a documentary production company in New York. She has previously freelanced editorially for Time Out New York and Nylon, and worked as a public relations executive in Manhattan and San Francisco for three years. Awake Zion is Monica’s directorial debut.

Nice care package of videos. Thanks all!

I remember the first time I saw that interview of him early on in AI when the interviewer was suggesting to David that he would get preferential treatment from his teachers back home because he was on AI. David just could not understand what he was talking about and finally the interviewer goes, “never mind, that’s okay.” I remember my first thought was, “why doesn’t he get that?”

And then I got it…he didn’t understand it because it is inconceivable to him that he could be treated any differently than anyone else simply because he was on TV. It just did not compute! That was when I first began to realize how truly special he really is.

If David’s charity work has to do with the Lisa Lopes Foundation, he’s on his way to Honduras. It takes aproximately 15 hours fight time from Utah to Honduras and the time there is one hour earlier than EST (same as CST in the U.S). So the time in Honduras is 9:00pm. So even if David left early this morning, he has not arrived yet. He’s still in the air, hopefully comfortable & warm. The temps while David is there will be highs in the 70’s, low’s in the 50’s, with high humidity. If David is going to Guatamala as well, the temps are similar.

David, as we all know has family in Honduras who I’m sure are very anxious to see him. Hopefully David will spend as much time as he can visiting his relatives.

Yes, I have researched as much as I could about where I think David is going to be. I’m sure I’m not the only one. 😉

Give him rest when he feels weary.
Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace.
Give him assurance when he feels doubt.
Give him joy when he feels sad and never allow David to feel alone or lonely.
Give us the wisdom to always do right by David.
Help us support David so that it’s always in his best interest.
CLOAK DAVID IN YOUR PROTECTIVE ARMS AS HE JOURNEYS TO FAR AWAY PLACES DOING GOOD AND CHARITABLE WORKS.
Keep David and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy Lord, we humbly pray. Amen

David, have a good & restful night’s sleep with sweet & happy dreams. Thank you for all you do and for who you are. HAVE A SAFE & ENJOYABLE TRIP TO CENTRAL AMERICA. Keep with you all our love, support & prayers always. Contigo siempre! We will be with you always! TAKE CARE!
