A Christmas Card to David
Posted by djafan on Monday, December 21, 2009
Dear David,
The Christmas tour has come to an exultant close and you are off for a well-deserved holiday. God rest you, merry gentleman. You have given us a Christmas from your own heart. You have asked us to consider why we are here on this bouncing ball, pleaded for the innocent, and opened a portal to the infinite for all within the sound of your voice. You have borne your testimony through word and song of the divinity of the Savior. This is your heart laid bare; this is your gift to us; and we are the better for having received it.
Regardless of one’s own belief system, the sweet sincerity of your faith is a palpable and unifying force. Are we not all brothers and sisters? Do we not all cherish our beliefs and depend upon our truths to give us strength? Can any one of us look upon a child in distress and not want desperately to help? Have we not all wondered why we are here and yearned to leave this world a better place, because we lived?
Someone recently tweeted that she tried to tell you at a VIP all that your music had done for her. Your reply was, “Thanks, but it wasn’t me.”
So vaya con Dios. Go with that God you give the credit for all that you are. Take with you our love. It is as real a force as the warmth of the sun and as unconditional. I hope you will always feel it encircling you like a warm embrace.
In the interim, we will try to be a little more tolerant and kind, a little more thoughtful, a lot more like you. We know you are not perfect. You are a self-admitted, “quirky, little, geeky kind of kid….but hey, that’s me.” Hey, we’ll take it. Because within that quirkiness lies a radiance of soul that veils your imperfections and renders them irrelevant. No, God love you, you are by no means perfect by the worlds’ standards. You lack a certain type of ego-driven vanity which enables you to make statements like the above. It also enables you to be totally “in the world,” but not “of the world,” in a way that is nothing short of noble.
So, goodbye, sweet Prince. Have a wonderful time at home with your family and friends. Merry Christmas, Happy Birthday, Happy New Year! You have blessed with your voice and sweet spirit, the lives of so many with so much joy. May God return that same joy to you, and all you love, without measure, forever.
God be with you, till we meet again.
Love,
Your fans at The Voice

As much as I love seeing and hearing David everyday, bringing something new to each performance–I love the thought of David getting some well earned rest even more. I hope he has a joyous Christmas with family and friends, and a hoot for his birthday. I hope he isn’t entertaining anybody for New Years Eve. After the Sun Bowl, for at the very least three weeks, I wish for him to sleep in late every day, go to lunch in his comfy clothes and eat Thai food til it comes out his ears. Have a invigorating run everyday, see as many concerts as his little heart desires and BE entertained. Maybe even have a date or six ( still wish I was 18). Relax his rigid diet and eat a forbidden cookie or twelve at one sitting. Lie in his room and stare into space for hours, just calmly reflecting on these past two years or what ever he chooses to dream about. He has given so much of himself to all of us, I hope his fans leave him alone and allow him to have a normal quiet vacation. Am I asking to much? I do love this wonderful person with all my heart.

What a beautiful Christmas card and message to David *sniff* … and love your twinkly lights!
Dakgal, so true, with all the fan gifts and letters and cards David gets, I think we would all love most for him to have the gift of time … time with family, with friends and to himself.
Angelica, I must admit I choked up when I read your “goodbye, sweet Prince” … surely not goodbye, only à bientôt, see you soon … as you say at the end, “till we meet again.”
Merry Christmas, everyone!!!

I just got the biggest thrill for a Monday morning. I needed some information from an employee so that I could fax their prescription in and got no answer from the work number. It wasn’t anything urgent, but something told me to call him at home, which is something I NEVER do. But I felt a strong urge to do it so I did, and as we were talking I heard someone singing the Christmas carol, Angels We Have Heard on High. It sounded like David, but I thought, no way, somebody else. But that VOICE could not be anybody else, no one else has a voice like that in this world! So I asked the guy, what are you listening to? He answered, “The Today Show.”
I squeed inside and made small talk to keep him on the phone as long as I could. He sounded great! I had forgotten all about that today, but I would have missed it anyway at work. But I got to hear him live. Just goes to show you, don’t ignore the tiny promptings you get to do something, or not. It just might make your day!
Hey TOfan! Merry Christmas to you too. Yes, not goodbye, only `a bientot. He just proved that.

Love this review from last night:
“Archuleta has this angelic aura about him that makes it seem like he’s singing to each person individually throughout that room.
Archuleta ultimately pumped up the crowd – making sure each section was granted the attention it deserved, as well as jumping around. Meanwhile- through it all, Archuleta never failed to miss a note. Within the duration of the show – Archuleta even took the time to ‘slow it down a notch’ as he headed towards the piano. Let’s face it, this kid’s talent is undeniable and truly remarkable…
Throughout the duration of the performance, Archuleta proved the soulful artist he is deep down. Not only can he belt out the highest of notes, but he knows how to move an audience at any given moment. Whether he may be flashing that perfect smile of his or doing a classic, ‘hoedown’ Archuleta has what it takes to remain in this industry for a lingering career.
Never before have I seen something of what Archuleta has the ability to do, as far as connecting so closely to an audience.
Just by his simple smile, you can tell that he truly loves what he’s doing, and that passes over to his extremely happy fans screaming his name. As far as 2010, and the rest of Archuleta’s career – I see only great and bright things ahead. Now, only time will tell.”
Go here for the entire write up. Italics mine!

Although he takes no credit, David has brightened the lives of so many of us, just by being who he is. He gives us hope when we feel gloomy, strength when we feel weak, and joy beyond belief. Wishing him a very Merry Christmas, a Feliz Ano Nuevo and a well-deserved rest to rejuvenate his heart and replenish his soul.

Every store I went into last week had Christmas music playing a la Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole. It’s time for all stores to get with the program and play some Archuleta “Christmas From The Heart”!

Glad David got home safe!
Good night, and for David…
Dear lord,
Please take care of David.
Watch over him, protect him from all harm.
Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path.
Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give.
Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him unconditionally as we, his devoted Archangels do.
Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being.
Give him rest when he feels weary.
Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace.
Give him assurance when he feels doubt.
Give him joy when he feels sad and never allow David to feel alone or lonely.
Give us the wisdom to always do right by David.
Help us support David so that it’s always in his best interest.
CLOAK DAVID IN YOUR PROTECTIVE ARMS, AND PLEASE LORD, KEEP DAVID AND HIS VOICE HEALTHY AND STRONG as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy Lord, we humbly pray. Amen
David, have a good & restful night’s sleep with sweet & happy dreams. Thank you for all you do and for who you are. Keep with you all our love, support & prayers always. Contigo siempre! We will be with you always.

David, you’ve brought me so much hope and joy, I really can’t thank you enough. Between your uplifting music, watching you take wing in your life and career, and the inspiring things you’ve said (as ‘that homespun singer-songwriter, philosopher’ I deem you), you have truly been a blessing to me.

Archuleta on Regis and Kelly show Dec. 22 – The Press Democrat – Santa Rosa, CA – Archive
For all of you David Archuleta fans, he will be appearing on the Regis & Kelly show on Tuesday, Dec. 22 (9 a.m. PST).
Here are a couple of thoughts about Archuleta and his recent CD “Christmas From The Heart” …
– No other AI participant, over the past couple of years anyway, is really capable of doing a Christmas CD that would be half as good as Archie’s and 90 percent of them shouldn’t even try.
– After listening to it more than once Idol Chatter must admit one thing – it is one of the best Christmas records out there. I’d even go so far as to say it’s one of the best, ever…

When I spoke with David on Sunday afternoon, I said the following to him in our conversation,” We know that you have been blessed by God and we in turn are blessed to be seeing you and hearing your music. When you sing the carols, we feel his presence near you and we have been awed by that. I am speaking about some of the people from the different fan sites, from all religions and non believers as well”. He seemed to be feeling a bit melancholy leading to the finale of his concert tour.
But, there is no way that his band and tour team let David feel anything but over the top with happiness.

Loving the David buzz! He seems to be all over the net, being praised for CFTH and the Christmas tour, and rightly so!
On a personal level, my daughter texted me four times tonight so far, from the mall where she works in an educational toy store during her break from college.
Text #1: “Mom, my store is playing David Archuleta right now, singing, “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”.
Text #2: “I’m on a break, doing some shopping in ‘Express’. David is on their radio, too, singing, “O Holy Night”.
Text #3: “This is getting weird. I’m in CVS now. Guess who’s singing? I think it’s David’s voice. Does he do a song about melodies of Christmas? Do you know it?” (heh!)
Text #4: “I’m back in my store now. I think David Archuleta is following me! Now he’s singing “Joy To The World”.
And then…
I received an email today from a friend to whom I gifted CFTH, as an early Christmas present:
“Bebe
I had a song in my head. Even in church on Sun. when the priest was giving his sermon he said the words “they remind us” “they remind us” — I couldn’t remember what song it was but I knew the tune and those words…..it kept haunting me……
This morning on Regis when David Archuleta sang “they remind us” they remind us” that was it! “Melodies of Christmas” – OMG when he sings he does bring tears to your eyes……that song is just beautiful…
Hope you have a good day….going to play MOC song now. They remind us………..
Love, Ceil”

I wanted to add my “Merry Christmas” and thanks to all of you that work so hard keeping these web sites going. I read often and hardly ever write, but very much appreciate the dedication, love and work that goes into them.
This is my first Christmas that I have been impacted by David, in that I didn’t really “find” him until last January. I spent last Christmas in a bit of a stupor, missing my Mom who had recently passed away. I feel quite differently this year, in no small part to following David, who has helped me find “that something extra” that Christmas should bring to your life. Hmmm, I think that might be peace and happiness. Cool, huh. Again, thank you.

Poof – So glad this Christmas is much better for you and David has brought peace and happiness to your life again.
Bebe – That is awesome about them playing David all over that mall tonight! I can see CFTH becoming as traditional a part of Christmas as the artists we’ve heard all our lives. And that email from your friend about MOC haunting her, “they remind us, they remind us,” playing in her head and hearing that same phrase in church. And still not being able to remember where she heard it until David sang it on Regis and it was like a revelation to her. Chills. While I was reading it, I was reminded, “they remind us,” of that haunting phrase from Kipling’s poem__
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,

It’s 1:30AM. I’m groggy from the cold medicine I took earlier, but I woke up with suddenly with a start knowing I hadn’t posted, but didn’t feel my usual panic. Then I remembered why. David is home surrounded by family & friends who he knows and loves and who know and love him. He is where he should be after giving us “Memories Of Christmas” we will have for the rest of our lives. My wish for David is what I wish for everyone..the blessings for a safe, happy & healthy Holiday Season.
Every time David is asked what was the best present he’s ever received for Christmas, his answer is always the same. He’s never focused on the gifts he’s received. He’s always known “gifts” are not what Christmas is about. He always says being with family is the true gifts of Christmas. Even as a young child, he never asked for or wanted anything other than to be with his loved ones. David, from a very young age had his priorities straight and still does. A very wise, old soul is David Archuleta.

David Archuleta performs on “Regis and Kelly” holiday episode
Instead of doing a well-known Christmas jingle, David got personal and decided to sing a special song that he wrote about what Christmas has meant through his life, called Melodies of Christmas.
“His parents must have been so happy to hear him put their family traditions into a song like that! Regis is on hiatus post-surgery so Kelly Ripa’s husband Mark Consuelos guest hosted and put David on the spot by asking him about the best Christmas gift he ever got. When David paused Mark suggested he could also tell us about the worst gift he ever received. David dodged both bullets with tact and charm by saying he doesn’t really recall those details because he just remembers the time he spends with his family. Now that is a boy who make any Mama proud!”

He sounded great & with all that recent touring & it being a morning show, I simply don’t know how! (lol) I’d also like to mention that I finally got (my mom to sit down long enough) to finish David’s Billboard concert & WOW! That second half with the classic Christmas songs & those strings accompanying him was simply breathtaking. I’ll for sure be pulling out my Christmas From The Heart CD to enjoy as many more listens as possible before Christmas!”

David is getting a lot of buzz right now and what they’re saying is really good. In fact, the best I’ve heard since he began his career, (as he says, with Crush,) not with AI. heh. I’m thinking this Christmas CD and tour was a stroke of sheer genius because this buzz would not be out there without it. It was David doing what he does best. Making an emotional connection to others with songs that he cares about passionately and that also show off his amazing vocals.
Love that Bring da Beat Back quote, “The machine known as David Archuleta…”

These heartfelt songs have universal appeal, whether you’re a fan or not and whether you’re Christian or not. From what I’ve heard, David has picked up many new fans because of “Christmas From The Heart”.
The fortunate ones who got to hear David sing these songs live on the Christmas tour cannot deny the magnetic pull from the audience to David. The way he connects with his audience will, IMHO be his trademark in years to come.

New interview from US Weekly magazine:
David Archuleta Shares His “Melodies of Christmas”
Wednesday – December 23, 2009 – 2:14pm
US Weekly’s music editor, Ian Drew, talks with David Archuleta about his heartfelt holiday album!
American Idol alum David Archuleta loves Christmas — so much so that he decided to follow up his self-titled debut album with Christmas From the Heart.
The Season 7 runner-up, 18, talks to Usmagazine.com about the motivation behind his sophomore CD, what inspired him to write a brand-new Christmas song and his recommendations for your holiday party playlist!
Why did you decide to record a Christmas album?
For me, Christmas music has always been such a big time in my life. Ever since I was little, I was just into Christmas music. We used to go around Christmas caroling with Santa hats on, and I did that whole thing, and it was really fun… That’s always been my time to sing. Now it’s like, ‘Whoa! The songs that I’ve been singing every year since I was a little kid — now I get to make an album?’
What has the experience been like?
I never imagined that I would be able to really do a Christmas album like this, to this extent, where I have my own arrangements of these songs that I’ve been singing. It’s just so cool. And it’s like, ‘Wow, no one else sings it this way except for me, and it’s on an album and it’s released.’ It’s just really amazing to see that from where I would sing acapella when I was little at retirement homes and hospitals and neighbor’s houses to now being able to put them on an album.
How did you choose the songs?
Some of them were songs that I’ve sung or I used to sing. So that’s what’s cool. And [the producers] went to Prague for some of these arrangements to have a Prague orchestra, and it was just so cool. It’s just exciting to have some of the songs like “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” and “O Holy Night.” Just those songs — that’s what I grew up singing.
What inspired “Melodies of Christmas,” the song you wrote yourself?
It sums up what I feel Christmas music can do for people. It talks about how all the different melodies of Christmas bring back memories. When people hear Christmas songs, it reminds them of things. It reminds me of having dinner with my family, just celebrating opening presents and this family trip that we had during the holidays.
Which songs from your Christmas album are a must for any holiday party playlist?
The Trans-Siberian orchestra song. I love that one. It’s so big and powerful.
How do you spend Christmas?
We actually used to put on some Christmas shows with me and my brothers and sisters and cousins, and we used to just go out and bike at retirement homes and hospitals and just put on shows for people who might feel kind of left out and forgotten about because they’re in the hospital or places where they might be alone. For the actual holiday, usually we’ll go to my grandpa’s, but we went to Las Vegas last year. We went to get away because I had not been home all year, and I’d just been so busy with so many different things. It was finally my break to be back with my family. It’s so important to spend time with the people you care about.
What are your favorite Christmas albums to give as gifts?
Mariah Carey is great. She’s an amazing singer and has such a big voice. My mom listened to Celine Dion a lot when I was little. I always heard Natalie Cole’s “The First Noel,” too. She’d sing that a lot. Natalie Cole was a big influence!

DAVID ARCHULETA: Concert Review!
A-List Music Promotions –
20 December 2009
With a smile that lights up the room, the always adorable David Archuleta took center stage at the Capital One Bank Theatre in Westbury, NY. As it was the last show for Archuleta’s headlining the tour – Archuleta not only displayed songs off his self-titled debut album, but also performed songs off of his Christmas album. With the snow covering New York – the atmosphere truly made it feel a little bit more like Christmas.
Archuleta – who gained the majority of his popularity from ‘American Idol’ – since then has created a buzz, with two major singles – “Crush” and “A Little Too Not Over You”. As this buzz has been created, Archuleta soon found himself at the level of being a teenage hearthrob. In Westbury, NY the theatre was filled with generally teenage girls – screaming their hearts out for the one and only ‘Archie’ as fans know him.
What is truly remarkable about Archuleta is his ability to reach out and interact with his fans throughout his performances. Even with over one thousand people in a room, Archuleta has this angelic aura about him that makes it seem like he’s singing to each person individually throughout that room. During the fan favorite, “My Hands”, being the always charming guy that he is – Archuleta reached out to several fans, holding onto their hands. If only the guy knew that by those quick seconds – he made his fans’ lives, let alone their night. In the always up-beat, “Zero Gravity” Archuleta ultimately pumped up the crowd – making sure each section was granted the attention it deserved, as well as jumping around. Meanwhile- through it all, Archuleta never failed to miss a note. Within the duration of the show – Archuleta even took the time to ’slow it down a notch’ as he headed towards the piano. Let’s face it, this kid’s talent is undeniable and truly remarkable.
Now, only time will tell.

Taking the liberty of posting SF’s prayer:

Thank you for re-posting this review. It was well written and objective.
Here’s a riddle for ya:
Why didn’t the reviewer mention the final show pranks? That MADE the performance so much more interesting. David hardly missed a note or a band cue. THAT was maybe the most amazing part for me. It was as if the writer was in some alternate universe. Made me giggle to read it again.

You’re right, Abrra! By all accounts the writer gave the show an A+. It would have been so cool had he mentioned the shenanigans that went on that night. But, hey, I’m thankful for little things and am elated that more and more reviewers are finally getting “it”!

Oh Abrra, that video recap in post #57 was just WONDERFUL! With highlights from each show, it brought the entire tour together!
It’s plain to see that David’s Christmas tour was exceptional, not to mention heavenly.
I remember having a very strong feeling at the end of AI7 and I’m feeling the exact same way now…Call it intuition, call it instinct or a gut feeling.
It’s only a matter of time before word gets out that THE VOICE is a force to be reckoned with.
Did I mention that I trust my instincts? heh!

David tweeted last night that he went to the movies to see “The Blind Side”. I haven’t seen it yet but am excited to hear how David liked the new Five For Fighting song, “Chances” which I understand is played at the end of the movie. Who am I kidding? David probably knows the song! It’s a really good song, in FFF style, a la “The Riddle”, and hopefully David will cover it one day.
BTW, the movie stars Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw, and Kathy Bates and is the remarkable story of All-American football star Michael Oher. I just might check it out tomorrow night.

Abrra – ITA with your reply in #51. It was a great review, but not mentioning what a consummate pro David showed himself to be during all the shenanigans was an oversight. I was amazed to see how focused he was during ZG, with all that was going on behind him. He joined in the fun but seemed also determined that he was going to give everyone the same level of performance he had given in other shows. A lot of performers might have responded to all the craziness by sloughing off and just having a good time, cause what the heck, it was the last show. Not David.
Tawna21 #54 – Thank you. I too loved that video Djafan posted. I have seen the original made by the LDS church. It is lovely too with the actors speaking Hebrew. I’m sorry you had trouble viewing the Ave Maria video on the front page. I checked with Bebe who told me she also had some problems at times, but has tried 5 times this morning and it was there each time. This morning I could not see the vids in the comments section, but after clearing my cache, voila! they appeared again. So you might want to try that.
I am obsessed with that Ave Maria video by ArchuletaAvenue. Obseeeeeesssssseeeeeeed!!! That was the concert I attended in Cleveland. That video is just incredibly beautiful, not only for his singing, which is flawless, but visually. Thanks to Funnygirl, for posting it here on the last thread and flinging me into an Ave Maria vortex. There is so much passion on his face. He says he is married to his music and I can readily believe it, because he makes love to that song. And he is capable of revealing more emotion in one hand than most people have in their whole bodies.
Guuuhh. I have been watching and rewatching, (did I mention I am obsessed with it?) and made a version with closer view and just a few subtle effects.
Merry Christmas Eve everyone! Except for Vee,(thanks for posting the vids) for whom it is now Christmas day. That’s just weird to me. And don’t even get me started about water going counter clockwise down drains there “down under.” G’Christmas day, mate. 😆

OMG! What a thrill the El Paso Sun Bowl is SOLD OUT! Just a little background: the capacity according to Wikipedia is 51,500 and the elevation is 3,910 feet above sea level. I live there and am now bummed that I will be spending New Years somewhere else. The weather there will be be pretty decent; usually the air is a little dry. Am so excited for that many people to see David. Hoping for decent flying and driving weather for the travelers coming to the game.
As to the reception David will receive, I think someone has already mentioned that the locals will probably be enthusiastic and its a holiday and everyone should be in pretty good spirits. Only thing will be parking problems. **51,500*** OMG!!!
Wishing EVERYONE a Merry Christmas and the happiest of holidays. See yall in the new year.

This hasn’t been confirmed yet but if true, I would hate to miss it. It’s quite possible since the show many times includes celebrity interviews Check listings for your local channel and set your DVRs and Tivos. 6:00 AM is way too early for me!

Duh!!! David might have something to do with the sell out…
Blaziek said something that has really helped the Sun Bowl this year is the matchup. The game is already sold out thanks to Stanford having a Heisman trophy finalist and Oklahoma just one year removed from the national championship game.
Blaziek also said the half-time entertainment of American Idol’s David Archuleta is drawing a lot of locals to the game.

I’m really having David-less blues thinking that we don’t know when we’ll see him again after his halftime show. I’m happy that he has a chance to be home with family and friends to relax and write songs for the new CD…but is he done yet?? Seeing him perform live just spoils you and you can’t get enough. But when you can’t see him live, waking up to new concert videos is so great. I’m thankful to David for bringing new friendships with people who “get” him. Happy 2010!

A big day tomorrow for David’s fans! Something tells me David never really thought HIS birthday was anything but just another year gone by. He just doesn’t seem to be that much into his Birthday. I think his parents raised him & his sibs to not have unreasonable expectations on these occasions as far as gifts & parties. Food seems to be the big thing to expect. Gifts & parties are secondary. I may be wrong, but it’s just a feeling. I hope he knows we celebrate HIM and are so grateful for HIM in our lives.
