Last Night

Posted by djafan on Thursday, December 3, 2009

Last night was unbelievable.  The day started off great, met several David fans for lunch from various fan sites.  Let see, JH who arranged the luncheon from FOD and fellow fodders, Kalei, not sure of the spelling, from Hawaii.  Maggie and her friend from the Golden Archies who kept breaking into song, by the way Angelica, Maggie says to say hi to you.  She had been wondering what had happened to you, I filled her in about The Voice…lol I met sweet Sweet-on-da, had a great time chatting with her and her nice sister,  desertrat and her friend.  It is definitely true what they say about David fans, they are the nicest warmest people around.

Very nice venue and VIP area, chatted with Mikesd, robertla, Monica, shared David perfume with Ann Margaret, shared tears with Marylu and so many others.  It’s like a huge extended family.

We were taken to the venue for our acoustic set, in comes David all glowy and smiley.   He has such a sense of humor, he said he wasn’t going to ask us what we wanted him to sing because no one can agree.   He needs to record Mary Did You Know, it was the most soul piercing, tear inducing rendition I have ever heard and a very soulful Chestnut song (what he calls it).  They asked the questions and the one that stood out for me was, “What brought about the writing of the song Don’t Tell Me and if he will ever sing it?”  He didn’t think he’ll ever sing it but who knows.  The reason that song came about because he was being told he needed to change himself, do things a certain way, do this, don’t do that to make it in the business and he disagreed.  He was and is so wise.  Then picture time.

Hi David hand outstretched, I’m Patty from El Monte, he says hi as he takes my hand.  You have been such an inspiration to me and I appreciate who you are and all you do.  I had this made for you. I handed him a silver chain with hook and a small plaque engraved with, May God’s Angels Always Protect You, “The Voice”.  I place it in his hand, he put it close to his face and read it, looks at me and says”awww thank you”  I told him he is “The Voice” so much so that several of us created a new fan site called “The Voice” as I pointed to the button pinned on me.  His green crystal emerald eyes open wide and says “Really, that’s nice, wow”

I then started speaking to him in Spanish, I said,” La mujer mas importante de nuestras vidas, (The most important woman in our lives) my tweet, he said” mi madre, I remember that, I tweeted you”.  I was ecstatic!  I told him that was the second time he responded to me in Spanish, if he wanted to make it a third, to tell me something in Spanish, he went hmmmmmmm “Hola” and started laughing, I told him that he was being funneee, that that wasn’t fair as I held his forearm he just laughed harder.  Then Kristen cut in told us to get ready for the picture, we put our arms around each other still giggling, I’m afraid to look at that picture.  I turned we hugged,  he said thank you so much again, I said he owed me one, he laughed, I walked away still in archuheaven.  At least a couple dozen people wanted to know what I said to him to make him laugh like that.  We stood and just watched him until picture time was over…sigh.

I was lucky enough to get a front row center seat, my family got there, I said my hellos and went back to my seat.  Benton did a short set, sorry not short enough for me.  David came out to a thunderous noise, I looked back, everyone was standing and screaming.   The loudest I have heard so far at a David concert, it was like that all night.   He’s letting go of those dance moves a little more, ok a need to fan girl, he was gorgeous!  Ok..every song, every note was perfection, ALTNOY beyond words, everyone sang along to Crush, The Riddle and Fields of Gold, my new favorite crying songs.   I love Melodies of Christmas, especially with David rocking out to it, the ending to Pat a Pan and Riu Riu Chiu are to die for, The First Noel, Ave Maria, and Oh Holy Night were journeys to heaven via David, just an amazing night.  At one point we were so loud, he looked at Steve and Steve smiled and gave him a thumbs up.  The band never sounded better, the backup vocals and music are tight.  It had to come to an end.  On my way out hugging was going on everywhere, until next time from everyone, what a feel of community.

My family, we finally found each other, my daughter said he was great, that his stage presence and his manner is so honest.  My granddaughter couldn’t believe how loud it was and how much older he looks.  This is their fourth time.  My sister said she could feel his energy from where she was sitting, that it glows from him and what a voice, she said he almost sings as good as our father teasingly…lol  She said he is really good.  My mom wanted to know his age again because he sings so good, she said “His voice is so mature and his Ave Maria is like an angel singing.”  Then she went into protective mode.  “How many more concerts does he have?  Is he going to sing these songs at all of them?  He needs to take care of that voice, he’s young.   When is he going to do the Spanish album?  I hope soon.” “Oh and he sure is good-looking”, and something else I better not say…lol

Do you like water?

It was like having three concerts rolled into one, the pop, the organic, and the Christmas.  It was a wonderful experience that we plan to repeat, hopefully sooner than later.

Oh BTW…I have a two-thirds drank water bottle…guess who’s?

    dja,

I wish I hadn’t been the other half of your brain that had to stay at home last night. I loved reading every word of your post, fan girl! What a sweet experience at the VIP! He remembered tweeting you and you got a big laugh and a hug and a Hola! LOL. WOW. Maybe next time you will get more Spanish out of him. He probably would have done it then but he got so tickled at his clever lameness. He is way too adorable.
The concert must have been amazing and I’m so glad the crowd was wild. We Cleveland concert goers will see if we can top it. haha.
I’m so happy for you and your family. What a validation of your ODD for them at last. And you showed him the pin! You seriously rock!
Uh…I bet some half eaten cookies would have been good washed down with that water. 😆

I LOVED your recap, dja! Aye Dios Mio, what a night you had! Are you saving the water? Can you imagine David’s lips touched that bottle? Boggles the mind sometimes how we forget he is just a man…well, not “just a man”, but you know what I mean?

He loved performing in Anaheim! And I’m sure he loved seeing you again! The button was a nice touch!

Going to read your article again! OHN was to die for! I’m surprised you were still standing after that magnificent vocal performance. (and he looked magnifico too!).

    Good night, and for David…

    Dear lord,

    Please take care of David.
Watch over him, protect him from all harm.
Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path.
Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give.
Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him unconditionally as we, his devoted Archangels do.
Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being.
Give him rest when he feels weary.
Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace.
Give him assurance when he feels doubt.
Give him joy when he feels sad and never allow David to feel alone or lonely.
Give us the wisdom to always do right by David.
Help us support David so that it’s always in his best interest.
A SPECIAL REQUEST LORD…CLOAK DAVID IN YOUR PROTECTIVE ARMS THROUGHOUT HIS WINTER TOUR, KEEPING DAVID AND HIS VOICE HEALTHY AND STRONG as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy Lord, we humbly pray. Amen

David, have a good & restful night’s sleep with sweet & happy dreams. Thank you for all you do and for who you are. Keep with you all our love, support & prayers always. Contigo siempre! We will be with you always.

djafan what a wonderful recap of your evening at The Grove. You must still be reeling in archustupor after such an exciting time. To have him remember your tweets and to present him with your gift–WOW! How special to have your family with you and to know that they have ‘seen the light and heard The Voice’, and they get it.It must be a great feeling!

“Oh BTW…I have a two-thirds drank water bottle…guess who’s?”—> squeeeee!! Yeah–you’re still in the stupor would be my guess. You could get one of those plexiglass doll display cases to put it and your pix with him in, and set it on the coffee table with a ‘do not touch’ sign.

djafan, loved your recap and enjoyed meeting you! Then, you came out of the concert waving that water bottle, you looked like you had just won the lottery 🙂 I’ve never had so much fun at a concert before. Everything about the experience was unbelievable. The amazing fans, the tangible energy you could feel in the air, and most importantly, the brilliance The Voice. So fun! I’m so glad I finally got to meet up with fans and put faces with screen names. I even got to sit next to Mikesd during the concert. He was rockin’ and singin’ right along with David. O course, he wasn’t the only one. So much fun! Oh I already said that 😉

My sister, who I treated to the VIP experience, had a great time meeting the fans. She finally got to see that I’m not so strange after all. There are a lot of us strange DA fans, haha. I had sent all 8 of my brothers and sisters David’s CFTH CD and I was excited to see what my sister thought of it. Well, she hadn’t even taken it out of the rapper. Can you believe that? So, on the way to the concert, I made her listen to the whole thing so she would be able to hear the difference with him singing live. During the drive when O Holy Night came on, I noticed her wiping tears away. I was thinking, YES! Maybe another one will bite the dust and I won’t be the only strange one in my family.

Even though that didn’t really happen, she kept saying how beautiful he sounded and she could sense that he was special. When we got back to her house, the first thing she did was go get the CD, put it by her purse, so she could listen to it on the way to work the next day. Side note: She called me about 7:00 pm tonight so I could hear the album playing in her car. When she listens to him continually on a 6 hour drive home, like I did, then maybe I can say, “There’s hope after all.”

One last thing, I went ahead and changed my moniker, since everyone thought it was sweetonda, kind of sounds like Towanda on Green Fried Tomatoes. We had a laugh over that one. Hope the new look makes more sense relating to ODD and all.

    Lovely post djafan!
It was great to be able to meet you, SweetOnDA, and many others from the various fan sites. It sounds like your family had a wonderful time at the show. As I didn’t attend the VIP, I appreciate you sharing with us David’s responses to various fan questions. Regarding the lyrics to “Don’t Tell Me”, I believe we’ve heard the follow up to that song in “Works for Me”.

Vee, thx for sharing the video clips! It tickles me that the two women on violin (RRC)don’t seem to be phased by the fact that they’re playing for “The Voice”. 🙂

I attended the Anaheim show and it was spectacular! It was so nice to meet Mike and reconnect with others whom I’ve seen at other Southern California events.

During the concert, David was in great voice and high spirits – much of it fueled by the enthusiastic response from the crowd. There were several times after he completed a song when the ovation from the crowd went on for an extended period of time and he couldn’t move on to the next song because the crowd was still showing the love for the prior song! I am glad he has learned to wait a bit before he moves on. It gives us a chance to show our appreciation – and he seems to be allowing himself to drink it in (JMHO).

A few cute moments: As soon as David started Zero Gravity, he took off like a rocket. The guitarist, Steve, had the biggest smile on his face. David’s energy never let up and the crowd was on their feet. I think that’s what precipitated the triple spin at the end! During the next song, I think David had a tough time finding the one ear monitor that he had taken out since it had wrapped itself around his back and was resting on the other shoulder. Steve reached over at one point to help David.

After the break when David came out in his suit jacket, the back collar wasn’t down. He performed the first song with the collar up. During the break before the next song, Dave stepped behind David and straightened the collar – kinda like a big brother. The band really has David’s back – literally.

In addition to David’s fantastic performance, I gotta say that the band was stellar. The new drummer is great. During the slower songs when no drum was needed, he sat at the drums with head bowed during the entire number. Steve on the guitar is a master. Kendra – wow what a multi-tasker. Sometimes when Kendra was at the grand piano, Dave is at the keyboard – I think coordinating the backing tracks for, for example, the children’s voices during Ave Maria.

The stage was decorated just enough to give a flavor of the holiday. When I realized they need to schlep the ‘trees’ and ‘Christmas Ornaments’ from venue to venue, I thought they did a nice job setting the mood. In addition, there was a lot done with lighting. Not distracting – but in service to setting a mood and enhancing the look and feel.

The show was well constructed and everyone involved contributed to making it very professional and polished. And David commanded that stage like I’ve never seen before. It seemed that the response from the audience egged him on. It was almost as if he was thinking ‘oh, you liked that? – well have a listen to this new run and vocal styling!’

I had the best time. It was a great way to anchor the spirit and joy of the season. Best wished to those of you who have upcoming concerts.

Bright_Lightsaid – Thanks for another great recap of the show. Gosh it sounds like you guys just had a blast and rocked it out and I’m including David in that group. Seems the more the audience gives, the more he gives back. Loved hearing about the little on stage big bro love for our guy. The entire band seems to be doing an excellent job with this concert.

And then there’s David. As always, increasing in skill, comfort and magnificence with each new performance of each new tour. You know it’s coming, but you’re never quite prepared when he hauls you up to that next level with him. Wonder if we’ll be able to breathe at the altitudes he finally reaches? I’ve been practicing by forgetting to breathe watching the videos from this show. 😆

SF, I am working on the project for the CD. Will try to get it done and to you pre-KC.

LOL! I just noticed this site puts the word “said” after people’s screen name and I responded to Bright_Light as “Bright_lightsaid.” I thought it was a rather clever way to word a screen name when I typed it.

Reminds me of a friend of mine who will reply to something you say that she agrees with by exclaiming, “I said!” It makes absolutely no sense at all and cracks me up every time. Think I might do that. When someone makes a comment I agree with, I’ll just post, “I said!” behind it.

Somebody say something I agree with.

Strongly advise delete Tweetdeck using control panel It cost $100 to have the pc “cleaned” of Win32Zbot Trojan virus. Run yor scan and call your tech if something shows up. It infects your system files. Catch it early and it should be fine after cleaning by experienced tech.

The assisted living facility appearance somehow conjures the image of the Prince and the Pauper. He may be wearing the pauper’s clothes — the Walmart coat, wrinkled jeans, and the no-dressing-room-unshowered-hair, but he is a prince through and through. Amidst his back-breaking schedule, he finds time to visit some of those who seem to have been forgotten by the world. He sings to a small roomful of people, who don’t seem to know who he is, as if they are the most important audience he ever has. He invites them to sing with him, asks everyone their name, and brushes past security to shake everyone’s hands, because each of them is special to him. He is our Prince of Utah, His Royal Awesomeness!!

I just watched the assisted living facility video tonight. What a special human being he is. We are fans of the most wonderful guy, and when I see things like this, I feel truly blessed and awed by his determination to make choices that matter. For David, love is an action verb, and he chooses to use the small amount of precious time off allotted to him on this tour to strengthen the weary and uplift the lonely and forgotten. He has so much wisdom and heart for one so young.

I spent the day shopping and listening to David sing Christmas carols and then came home to decorate my tree and bake pumpkin pies and then…I watched a video on the meaning of life.

    Hi Refnaf! {{{HUGS}}}

Angelica, what is even more amazing about David visiting the Assisted Living Facility is that we would not have had a clue about it if the young lady whose grandmother is a resident there had not tweeted about meeting him there, then taking the videos. Makes me wonder if David does things like this all the time and no one is the wiser, but it would not surprise me at all. David talks the talk then walks the walk. He is as real as they come.

David & co will be traveling through “light” snow. Praying they spend the night in GJ in a nice & toasty hotel room…Beaver Creek is not far from GJ…Call me worry-wart!

You remind me of the elation of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady as she sang “I Could Have Danced All Night.”

A great story, well told. I hope you have many more David stories in your future to tell us. Especially the HOLA ones. That was funnnnnnyyyy. Hola Hushcats!

I finally found this blog! I thought I would post my take on Anaheim (pulled over from another blog…so I’m late!). It was the finale of my trilogy including Santa Rosa and San Francisco… Great seeing new and old (you know what I mean) faces at the venue! SweetOnDA…hope you didn’t think I was too crazy… djafan, I should have asked you if I could touch the bottle…than I could have sped off with it cause I was in my car with the engine running!!

Anaheim… Ah yes, the Anaheim Chili was…HOT! I knew it was going to be a good evening when checking in at the VIP, Kristen said “Hi Michael, I don’t even need your ID, I know who you are” to the somewhat stunned faces around! After the obligatory sandwiches and cookies we were finally led into the venue and were treated to “Mary Did You Know” and …”The Christmas Song” aka Chestnuts! No discussion about what to sing (thank you!) but just went right into it. I think they were running short on time. David delivered in a big way with a version of TCSakaC that only David could deliver. Perfection. On to the photos…Ray asked to keep the talking to a minimum for David’s sake so I obliged and did most of the talking while the Archugaze honed in on me and practically seered through to the back of my skull. It does make it a bit challenging to focus on words while that is happening and he has a grip on your hand but that I did, telling David how his influence has allowed me to spend much more time on my piano and guitar. His response: “That is soo cool!” made me loose track of what else I wanted to say in my seemingly nanosecond. I know I said something about getting sheet music to his CD and I thanked him for all he has done and how honored I was to be able to be there to speak with him in person. Photo snap and off I went.
The show. He was in great voice from start to finish and the audience was the most enthusiastic of the three shows I went to . I discovered that very loud sustained clapping and yelling became infectious and as the people around me joined in with me it seemed to infiltrate the whole room much like a “wave” at a stadium. He was just in such great voice that all of the hoopla was necessary and it seemed to please him no end. My seat was in the fifth row center but elevated about a foot and a half above the first four rows so it was like having a front row seat with a better view. “The better to see you with, my dear”. I really lucked out seating- wise on all three shows. It was fun to meet a few new faces from this blog and others and see the old gang from SanDiego and SoCal in general. If only David could just keep circulating in SoCal for the rest of the tour to avoid that pesky cold weather and snow…(sorry rest of the world) and to give me more shows to go to.
Got a chance to meet Jared Paul, chatted a bit and put in my request to him for sheet music (can you tell I want to learn this stuff??). All of my other thoughts I think I will keep to myself! Just another great chapter in the Archubook of my life right now! Amazing…just amazing.

Our guy is quite the showman! As the encore, David sang “Feliz Navidad” at last night’s show and he involved the audience! I hope he includes this in every show now! It’s upbeat and the audience seems to love it! Djafan already posted this video up at the top but it bears repeating:

Welcome to The Voice! Three shows! WTG! From what I’ve read, David was in rare form on the west coast! My next VIP is in Westbury in two weeks. Yikes! But I have to thank you; your M&G gave me inspiration to forge ahead!

Hi there, Mike, Emi, SB! Glad to see you all here. 😀

I’m a little, well not just a little..A LOT concerned about the weather & driving conditions for David & Co in Colorado, and into Kansas City on Tuesday and St Paul on Wednesday. The forecast is calling for blowing snow for those cities on those days. Not a good combination, traveling by bus & blowing snow. NOT TO MENTION my sis, Terry from Tampa & I are flying into KC on Tuesday. I seem to recall me voicing my concerns about David traveling by bus in the areas he was scheduled to perform in and the possibility of trecherous weather, but my concerns were met with “oh, the snow doesn’t come until Jan, Feb”. Well guess what? Forecast is calling for snowy conditions in each of the next four cities he’s scheduled in.

I’m more concerned for David & his crew, than if our flights are delayed or cancelled.

Tonight the prayer has extra special meaning for me…

    Good night, and for David…

Help us support David so that it’s always in his best interest.
A SPECIAL REQUEST LORD…CLOAK DAVID AND HIS TOUR COMPANIONS IN YOUR PROTECTIVE ARMS AS THEY JOURNEY THROUGH HARSH & COLD CONDITIONS DURING HIS WINTER TOUR, AND PLEASE LORD, KEEP DAVID AND HIS VOICE HEALTHY AND STRONG as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy Lord, we humbly pray. Amen

David, have a good & restful night’s sleep with sweet & happy dreams. Thank you for all you do and for who you are. Keep with you all our love, support & prayers always. Contigo siempre! We will be with you always.
