Two Tales of a City

Like many of you, I have felt like an island in a huge sea when it comes to being a fan of David Archuleta. That was until recently, when I encountered two people who I knew on a casual basis and discovered they were fans. I have been to each of their businesses many times over the past two years. It proved to me that there are many “hidden” fans all around us. We just have to discover them. They go about their daily lives too busy to take their fandom to the next level of actually following David’s activities via fan sites. They remember him from Idol as the singer with the great voice and sweet personality. It made me happy to bring them a bit closer to the Voice.
Tom
I was in a local shop to buy some supplies for my cleaning business. The owner, Tom, asked me, “What’s new?” I told him about going to see David at two of the last three concerts. I told him about the VIP experience and the chance to meet friends I knew from online. His eyes grew large. “He was in town?” he asked.
Me: Yes, you’re a fan then ?
Tom: Oh yeah! My wife and I went to see David on the Idol tour. He was great!
Me: You’re in luck! He’s coming to Foxwoods and Boston House of Blues next month. I bet there are tickets left.
Tom: We’d really love seeing him in concert.
Me: He has a new Christmas CD out too. You can buy it at Target.
Tom: I’ll get one!
Me: I made a CD of the live Summer tour. Can I gift you two copies, one for each of you? And I have a poster from VIP I’d be happy to give to your wife.
Tom: Thank you so much. That would be great!
I dropped off the two CD’s I had burned for them and the poster the next day. He was really happy to reconnect with the voice he remembered from Idol so long ago.
SandyBeaches bracelet
The second story has a short, but lovely back story. When in Manchester last month, I had lunch with online friends. SandyBeaches had given out a gift of a small mirrored box with a braided rawhide bracelet inside. The inscription read ” David’s Angels”. I wear it constantly.
Yesterday I stopped at my local diner for take out. As I was paying for my food, the owner, George noticed my bracelet.
George: Is that in memory of someone close to you?
Me: No, it’s a gift from a friend. David is David Archuleta, the singer.
George: Yeah, I know him well! He has the smooth velvety voice. He was on Idol.
Me: You’re a fan, eh?
George: Yes! My wife is too. We followed him on Idol. He has a new CD coming out soon. I have to get it.
Me: It’s out now. Can I gift you one?
George: Oh my goodness, you don’t have to do that, ( as I head for the car.)
Me: Yes, I do.
I handed him the package and asked him if he will play it in the diner. George told me he sure would, that his player is broken, but now would be a good time to get it fixed. I said I’d be back another time and hoped to hear David singing over the system. As I left, I said, “I have some more David goodies to share, but it has to wait till tomorrow. ” He thanked me as he slipped a “gift brownie” into my take out bag. It was his way of saying thank you.
George's Diner
This morning I dropped off a gift bag with two Summer Tour CD’s and an autographed 8×10 picture of David from VIP. George was excited to hear the songs and loved the picture. He promised to put it in a very prominent place across from the cash register for all to see on a bulletin board.
The message I got from these encounters is that there are fans who are not as vocal as we, but follow David in their hearts all the same. I will continue to carry David’s music to share.
You can just call me the unofficial president of the David Archuleta Fan Club of Rehoboth, MA.

Your story is so true, I would like to have similar stories but not very known in my country. I remember once going for a ride to a big place and listen shopping crush, I screamed so loud that they were alarmed.
I was so excited to hear David, but only a song of many, but at least, in Argentina, someone else I like david.

abrra – love your stories. Doubtful that there are many fans in the Pacific NW. Rarely if ever hear any of his music, except on my ipod/zune/car radio, etc. Not surprised his Christmas tour didn’t include Seattle, as most VIP’s were out of state/country. No one has ever commented on my bracelets (MS, Invisble Children). It’s ok, though. Gave me another reason to see my grandaughter (BIG David fan – just too young to attend a concert per Daddy/my son) in Maryland, who I miss dearly.

I had another encounter Friday at the car dealership with a David fan in hiding. She is a young lady of 19 who works in the office. She saw my key chain from ILAA and asked if I saw David in Providence. I gave her a readers Digest version of the whole 2 concert experience. Left with her email, then sent a link to the chat room. I hope Kim comes to sit and talk with us really soon.

After reading this article and as a “frequent flyer” of Abrra’s chat channel, I have to say that if you have not yet experienced Abrra in action in chat, please do so soon. I’m firmly convinced that she is a magnet for David fans.
On any given night, the room starts out with two or three chatters plus four hidden viewers. When Abrra arrives, the list multiplies until it reaches about 25! Just tonight, Abrra worked her magic again! She said “I want just one of you viewers to jump down.” (meaning come out of hiding to join the rest of the chatters) and voila…someone joined the group. I kid you not. I don’t know how she does this but people seem to come out of the woodwork when they see Abrra’s name. She pays careful attention to everyone’s favorites, remembers them and makes sure she plays them when they come into the room, creating a fun evening of laughter, jumping, chair-dancing, singing and good times. And yes, her setlists are AMAZING!
You can’t convince me otherwise! Abrra is a magnet for David fans in chat and it comes as no surprise that she is one in her town, too. Love you Abster!

Abrra – I agree that there are many quiet fans out there. I went to a football game today with friends and as I was walking out the door I said something to her about going to a concert after Thanksgiving (Santa Rosa and SF) and she said – oh I liked him on Idol. And I said “he has a great Christmas cd out – let me give you one” and I did and she was so excited. I also too 10 of them to a Catholic K-8th grade school and left them with a note in the principal’s box to give them to the teachers or to use as prizes for the students. – I thought any Christian school would love to have some cd’s.

Abrra you are amazing! I just luvs ya, and I’ve never met ya! In doing a little gifting this year, I’ve been able to realize there are more of ‘us; out there that just don’t know they are ‘us’.
I sent my daughter a CFTH cd the day it came out and her baby goes to sleep with it playing each night. Then I decided to burn her a copy of it so her original wouldn’t wear out, and she took it to the beauty salon where she works and they play it on the Bose that is there. She has had so many comments on ‘The Voice’ and how beautiful it is. BTW–I have been toying with the idea of getting a Bose and now I know what I want for Christmas.

I can attest to Dayzee’s Archustupor. She came in to chat babbling about just coming from having her CD signed. She was telling us about the experience in small sentences. It was as if she had to compose herself after each word ! I asked her is she saw any family there, she replied “No.” I told her Jeff was standing beside David in most of the pictures that were on twitter. I don’t think she even noticed him. 🙂

I really, really want Ann Arbor to sell out. If Disney was involved and David was paid the most of any of their prior solo artists, I want every seat filled. I wish I lived there – the word has to spread to all the schools, etc. (flyers in the schools? are they all out for all next week or are they in session Monday?) Anyway, I am in the SF Bay Area so this is just me wanting to get those tickets sold. (Maybe David could twitter about that concert soon or his “management” could do a big push?)

Collegemom, Many fans share your sentiments, especially the local Ann Arbor fans. I know Rebeccafod and Funnygirl have been out there tirelessly putting up flyers all over, posting signs in the local Mormon churches, etc., to spread the word. They don’t want David to see any empty seats! Kudos to them. David really has the best fans!

Collegemom..Thanks to the “Temptress” refnaf, I checked the Ann Arbor web site for a ticket and she is correct. There are still good SINGLE tickets. I am seriously considering going so I will do my part to S/O the venue. 😀
I have to make sure I can take the day off first. This is the FIRST time I have EVER been scheduled to work the day after Thanksgiving! But, alas, this is what happens when there’s a mgmt change. I am at the mercy of the new boss. 😥
And I will drive the six hours it’ll take to get there..no biggie..WHAT AM I THINKING?!

Refnaf, when I checked for tickets, the best one available was section 2, row F,(sixth row) seat 209, which is on the right side facing the stage. Not a bad seat. Hopefully it will still be available in the morning. I have to make sure I can get off first…grrrrrrrr. I’ve never had to “ask” for a day off, I just took it. Boy, have I been spoiled! 😆

Very late EST
Been bursting to share this with you! My husband moonlights, playing first chair clarinet in our local Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. As I sat in the audience today at their holiday concert, listening to traditional and some non-traditional holiday music, my mind was working overtime as I imagined David at the Ann Arbor show. For a few moments I got stuck in oblivion as I waited for David to take the stage as the orchestra played a medley of his Christmas songs including “Joy To The World, “Angels We Have Heard on High”, “Silent Night” and “The First Noel”.
Hearing these songs live, in person with the intricacies of the instrumentation was magnificent, breathtaking, awe-inspiring. It was one of those moments in your life when you know that all the planets are aligned and that everything is alright in the world. And that was without David singing along! One can only imagine…

For all the fans who make videos and think “Will he ever see this?’ YES! I made a David Archuleta tribute video using a song by Theo Tams ( Canadian Idol winner 2008) called Sing. Our very own steno got the chance to go to a concert last night to see Theo. Here is part of an email I got this morning from steno:
“While I was getting a booklet and CD autographed I told him that he had American fans and that a tribute to David Archuleta had been made by one of those fans using Sing — I didn’t even get the words out of my mouth when he said “I know. I saw it on YouTube. I loved it.” He was smiling the whole time. Thought you’d like to know.”
Well I was so happy he saw it, but that he loved it. OMG!

Abrra/steno….Wow…Theo has seen and loved the video…which is a chat favorite. How many others out there may have also seen the fan videos we’ve made using their songs.
bebe…. Your imagination is intoxicating. I with everyone else hopes for video of this one, even an underwater cellcast.
As of late, everything I listen to has David’s voice in it, it seems as he has now taken over my hearing, I can’t hear anything else.

I am back to my game this week I will still check in the chat channel a few times a day/night when I can to visit with my peeps. If any of you drop in to visit David, please talk to the viewers and get them out of lurkdom? 🙂 I can’t wait for new videos to add to the channel!

Uh-oh..I just got an email from ARSO with instructions for the “Meet & Greet” with David before his performance with the Symphony. I was confused. The first row tickets are VIP tickets? What? I did not know they were doing their own VIP thingy with a photo op & everything, just like the ILAA VIPs.
I was definitely NOT expecting this at all! I just wanted to good seat! Yesterday, I kept getting row F on the side, but I couldn’t buy it til I knew for sure I could go, then this morning I checked again and ROW A came up, so of course I got it. I mean, I’m not crazy! First ROW!! But I did not expect to MEET David at this concert! What will I WEAR???

prd..SURE! Seriously! Do you have a ticket? I’m driving the 5-6 hours, leaving at no later than 7AM Friday morning. Meet & Greet is at 5:00. Will David have TIME for a M&G? I’m not sure I like David having to rehearse THEN have a M&G. When does David EVER rest? When is he flying out there..Thanksgiving day??
I still have to book a hotel room for the night after the concert. So much to do, so little time! 😆

Please take care of David.
