Remembering Our First Crush

In the blink of an eye, one year flew by! Today marks one year to the day, November 11, 2008, that David’s self-titled CD was released. Were you one of the lucky ones in New York City that bitter cold day, who waited shivering in long lines to witness this event in person? Or, like me, did you sit snugly at home hovered over your monitor waiting for You Tube clips, heartily wishing you were among those fortunate frozen fans?
How proud I felt as David came down the escalator at the Virgin Records Megastore to a mass of enthralled fans, waiting for a glimpse of him! Then he stood for what seemed like eons while press and fans took his picture, and I thought…this is the dawning of a new era of music!
Within seconds, a crowd of people formed a line to meet David and to have him sign their newly purchased CD. I watched as he said a few words to each person and put his autograph on their CD, while singing along with himself to his own songs.
Throughout the rest of that day, David performed at TRL , miTRL and MTV.
Mass hysteria outside TRL studios as David left the premises, into a limo, headed for his next stop.

Is it really a year ago? Wow. I remember driving to the Axis of Evil (aka Wal-Mart) and bursting with pride when I saw those red CD covers stacked on the racks.

This brings back memories of the developing stages of my ODD…lol
I was so proud and excited that day. Seeing everyone give David so much love and the screams were on real. He was so happy and excited. I can’t wait for the CFTH tour, 19 days and counting and the anticipation for the next album has me all in knots….lol Got to keep reminding myself, one thing at a time….Oh David!

the site looks great…. I don’t remember the day the cd was released but I do remember waiting for David to sing on Jay Leno…jessyq, djb, chickee, heart, panamom and I were laughing at ourselves over at nD…. jesseq was so nervous he needed a fan to cool himself off… that was a funny night…imagine being nervous that someone was going to sing on Jay Leno (but we were, haha)

Loving this site! Anyhow, I remember frantically running into Walfart (ha) on 11/11/2008 and with my hands trembling with excitement, rushing to the checkout with my cd…..and sat there with the prize fumbling and shaking and trying to get the little taped seal off the side so I could pop it into my cd player…..it took me forever, ripping that cd package open…….that tape came of in these tiny pieces and recking my nerves…….and then finally got the thing open and the rest is history… 🙂

David Archuleta: From Idol to Touring

With the Christmas season fast approaching, David Archuleta took some time out of his schedule to talk to The Daily Universe about his newly released holiday album, “Christmas from the Heart,” his rise in the pop world and his upcoming tour, which kicks off in Salt Lake City later this month.
“It’s always fun to perform back at home in Utah and be able to give back to them, the people who have given me so much in my life,” Archuleta said. “I am the way I am because of everyone in Utah.”
During this tour, which is largely in support of his holiday album, he’ll be traveling across the country through Dec. 20. The recording of his release, which features one original song, “Memories of Christmas,” provided the opportunity for Archuleta to let listeners in on his personal beliefs.
“What I want to do with this album is share my testimony of this music and I hope that you can feel what I am trying to say in this and why it’s so important for me to sing about this,” Archuleta said. “You can always go more poppy and radio friendly with the music, and that’s easy to do and more appealing in the pop world I’m in right now, but I want to make sure it’s reverent and sacred.”
Growing up in a Latter-day Saint home, Archuleta’s faith is pronounced through the 13-song album.
“Christmas music is something that everyone relates to and has a connection to,” Archuleta said. “It’s my way of saying this is something really important to me and I really want to share it with people, about Christ and His birth.”
His tour will feature some of the pop hits that helped Archuleta rise out of his American Idol-bred stardom, but fans should expect a Christmas-laden set list.
“What I did with the album I want to do with the shows too and kind of lead people with that spirit of Christmas and the spirit of the music,” Archuleta said. “It’ll be fun.”
Considering all that has been handed to him over the last few years, Archuleta has received his fame graciously. The exposure received from Idol, he describes, was largely unexpected.
“When I went to [American Idol] audition I wasn’t expecting to be on tour and making albums a year later,” Archuleta said. “I was just thinking, ‘I guess I’ll go audition to see what it’s like.’ It’s crazy now, working on a third album; I never thought that would happen.”
Although he grew up performing and even appeared on several episodes of Star Search at age 12, Archuleta wasn’t always sure about his future as a musician.
“I seriously would always joke with my friends, ‘You guys are all going to be geniuses; you’re all so smart and I’ll be behind McDonald’s trying to sing for my food,’” he said.
Until his touring begins at the end of the month, Archuleta is spending time in Los Angeles writing for his forthcoming album. He described the process as more personal and self-involved in comparison to his first self-titled release.
“I feel like people will know me a little better,” Archuleta said. “It will be so cool to have songs that came from me and from my own experiences. I think that’s so cool being able to share that in my music.”
As Archuleta has become a successful pop artist worldwide, he continues to push forward and expand his fan-base with each album.
“It’s been a great experience for me because it’s kind of pushed me to go beyond what I thought were my limits,” Archuleta said. “It’s refreshing to know because sometimes you don’t believe in yourself as much. You don’t believe in your potential as much as other people do. It’s cool for me because I feel like, I guess the Lord definitely believed in me more than I did. That’s been the biggest lesson for me in all of this is trusting in Him. Because even though it’s like, ‘Well I don’t see how I can do that,’ I guess because I’ve been given this opportunity, I guess someone up there believes in me and someone up there trusts in me. The fact that that person can trust me, as powerful as He is, I guess I can do it. That in itself is motivating.”

~This journey reminds me of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. And since jeans have a way of popping up here and there, I guess it kind of fits.. and very well I must say.. 😉
A journey that has had many twists and turns but the newfound friendships are what make it one I feel fortunate to be a part of. We are all bound in one way or another by the love and appreciation of The Voice and all the joy it brings us. Many stories told and many more to come, thanks to the Voice which is a gift that keeps on giving. Just thinking of all that has happened in just the first year….whew!! Looking forward to the next chapters to unfold, and to share it with all of you makes it even more special~

Anyway, Love the article Bebe and I remember it all too well because I was there and dragged a friend of mine there at 3:30 in the morning. I wanted to make sure I was there early to get a wristband…so I was like the 20th person on line. I pretty much was on my feet for 19 hours that day….saw David for 10 seconds..but it sure was well worth it. Will NEVER FORGET that escalator! The crowd was roaring with anticipation…it was the best day of my life.
Angelica, Betsy, Silverfox, Happy, Refnaf…and anyone I have forgotten…..how awesome to have stumbled upon this site tonight.
I guess it was meant to be. I never quite feel like I’m an elegant writer but always like to share once in a while.

Am I late ? Sorry just found out about this new David’s site this morning. Angelica, what would be your next project please? Who are the others brains in this new wonderful David blog site?
Before I forget, I can clearly read the post and all the comments through my new Iphone. Not like the other sites, so the simple the better, user friendly especially for people with reading glasses like me.

Paparazzi photos will be a fact of life for David. I think he knows it and will take it in stride per his tweet at the time..

glad you’re back Angelica!! I wondered what happened to you back up there a little bit.
Can I share a ‘moment’ with you all? I found out that David would be performing in Grand Junction, CO. on 12/5. This is about 1-1/2 hrs from where my daughter lives, so I called her to see if she would go and take her almost 5yo daughter if I bought the tix. She was hesitant because that was the weekend she was going to come to our house. Last night I finally convinced her that she needed to decide because the tickets were selling fast. She called me this morning and told me that she and her daughter and 6yo son wanted to go. Her little girl is soooo in love with David. She is all sorts of giddy and getting to go to his concert. I’m excited because my son-in-law agreed to getting a motel room and staying there with the baby during the concert. I’m so excited that my sweet daughter is getting a break from her hectic life and spending some ‘me time’ with her daughter and son (he’s a David fan, also). I tried to get her to let my do VIP’s for them, but she preferred not to. Oh well, they’ll be happy just to be there.
Now, I can’t wait for my time 11/24 & 25. Talk about being giddy–yup, I am!!

I’m in CST. Why do you ask? I still have to get the times on the comments right. You would not believe how wretched the process is. It’s like Ugandan time is this…choose what time you would like + or – the hours or half hours from 1 to 12 and multiply by your BMI times the year you were born less the square root of X = 2 -Y bother.

happy – – do you have an edit tab on the bottom left of your comment? It takes you to an edit comment page and you can retype or make any changes you want. Then on the right there is a blue bar that say “update comment.” Just click that and your comment is the way you want it. Does everyone else have an edit tab on the bottom left and a reply on the bottom right? Just wondering if I’m the only one that has it.

Bebereader – Thanks for those videos. They are so adorable – haven’t watched them in a long time. David barely moved during CRUSH but yet was so cute. He really steps up to the plate no matter who is interviewing him or how nervous he is. David is FIERCE!! He has always been a brave soul to me, always challenges himself.

David has grown so much in confidence since those interviews. He’s still humble & sincere, and I still find myself grinning from ear to ear as I watch or listen to his interviews. I don’t even realize I’m smiling until he’s done talking. And I feel a little silly yet so happy he’s in my life. 😀

David is in DC, or should be, for the Kaleidoscope Women Curing Cancer Event taping tomorrow. I wonder if we’ll have any sneak-peek videos of the show? But if the event’s producers request no videos or recordings of any kind, I hope there won’t be, no matter how much I will long to hear David’s performance. I’m wondering what David will be singing? And will he have a solo or will he duet with another artist? No matter…this is National TV, and IMO, a much bigger audience than the ALMA’s. 😀

I looked at so many versions. I think that one and maybe Mariah’s are my favorite.
I am struggling with a theme for a Christmas video. Being my usual odd ball self , I picked “different’ kind of Christmas song.. Now to make something good from it using what is available. /sigh It better turn out well or I will give up on videos LOL I am not using that song by David Foster. I have some thing else in mind.

Just discovered your new site – it’s great. I don’t know who originally coined David, “The Voice,” but I concur..LOL.
Well now that you are one of the writers of this new blog, I guess the book reading, will still have to take a back seat. As we discussed in AC, I’m also still trying to get back to being the voracious reader I once was, but it seems my ODD just gets in the way.
