Bluesky’s “Wishes for David Archuleta”

Posted by bebereader on Tuesday, January 19, 2016

As I read blogs, comments, and watch videos of DA on AI, one thought keeps running through my mind: Be Careful What You Wish For!

I remember the topics:

  • The difficulties and struggles of the school-age participants
  • The discussions on last minute song changes or refusal of song choices
  • The judges comments/support or lack thereof
  • The overwhelming response of the musicians, audience and public
  • The worry over contracts and what they might mean
  • The struggle and pressure to produce an album, with music videos
  • The pressure and joy of the AI traveling concerts (I was – and still am, I expect – completely in love with the AI concerts that DA did!!)
  • The blogs, the “owners”, the tours under contract
  • The discussions about pros and cons of different publicists, labels, genres, bands
  • The wonder of experiencing DA’s constant change-ups, licks, interpretations, and heart-delivery: love, vulnerability, and strength

And on, and on. And with every challenge: More DA. More exposure. More learning about it all. And about him, as well.

3931db87-3c0b-4d8f-8d76-c8e0afc3a5fbcredit: Lily

There are also many aspects of DA that I could not fully know at the time, because I learned about him through the medium of AI. And many, many times: the medium is the message.

I remember how there were discussions on how wonderful it would be when DA was free of the AI contract(s), and could do things more his own way.

I thought to myself how for me at least, it was like a dichotomy: I did not want AI to “own” him. Yet I felt a certain ownership myself. And it was because AI “owned” him that the whole dynamic of “ownership” came up in the first place. I felt like I had a window into DA. Their ownership gave me the illusion of ownership as well. (Like really identifying with a character in a movie or story – I value the experience, I value my own experience with the character – I learn, and it becomes part of my life.) I think that is part of the attraction of “reality” television shows.

Of course, I never wanted to “own” DA. I just wanted the closeness to continue more or less the same. But I didn’t realize. How could I? I had never been on a reality show. I did not become a “public figure” at the age of 16. And “Dear DA” never wanted to be a public figure in the first place. He just wanted to follow the direction of the spirit and sing. It brought him publicity. It brought him to AI. It brought him to me. I am grateful.

So now, like before, I find myself “wishing for DA”. Wishing for him to be happy, for him to find the music he loves and a way to share it … especially, I wish for the continuation of it’s impact on my life. I admit that!

It is January 2016 and yes, why not? I am “wishing for DA”. And as I already have got most of my other wishes, that he be free, that he can do the music he, himself chooses, that he can do things “his own way”…. Is it too selfish of me to hope that my other wishes will be met as well? Hey! It could happen!!

So I will make an unapologetic wish list:

  • that DA tours this fall (or latest, next spring) all across the USA (and other countries), so that other fans can see him live
  • that DA records a CD with Spanish music
  • and one in English as well
  • that the powers that raise him up will sustain him and successfully enlist his kind and honest heart in a new “contract” a new “ownership” that carries him onward and upward and…. Closer to so many who have come to love him. No matter how they came to “know” him.

Dear DA: We wish for you only the very best and brightest of futures. Fans just…well….want to be enfolded in the sounds of all the music that that future holds. You see, we love that sound and I believe that this is just the way it was meant to be.

HAPPY 25TH BIRTHDAY DAVID ARCHULETA!

Posted by djafan on Sunday, December 27, 2015

WINDOW PICDavid Archuleta turns 25!25 CAKE

Turning 25 is considered a milestone.  An age where we seriously begin to ponder where we are in life and where we’re headed.  Throughout our lives, we make decisions for known and unknown reasons. These decisions lead us down new paths, take us new places, places where we meet new people and suddenly, the world shifts again. What was going to happen can no longer happen and what will slowly turns into what’s meant to be. One decision folds into the next, and our life lays out before us. Most days we can get so caught up in daily life that we don’t stop to think about how each decision leads us to the next opportunity or away from it.  Wherever we may find ourselves we hope for happiness, always.  David has lead by example on how to live by listening to his heart and soul for that voice, that feeling that guides him.  Whether we agree or not, it is his journey.  Here’s to many more experiences as David fans.

GREATEST 25

I’m still in awe of the way “Don’t Run Away” smashed it’s way to the top of my listening list since Sat. night. I looked at the lady that was standing next to me taking pictures also and just dropped my jaw! It was a ‘Wow, what is happening here!’ moment. I just stood and shivered when he ended it.

I was so intent in watching his moves with ‘Nunca Pense’ that I really didn’t realize when he ended. :) My Gosh! He put the moves, the swag, and miles on that stage. He hasn’t forgotten how to work the crowd. A little more stage time and he’ll have that fire in his soul, and feet, burning up the stage in a 3-alarm fire!!!

When he did a perfect slide into the high notes on “Mirrors” it was chilling (the good, blueberry ice kind). That’s a fast moving song with a lot of words to fit into a single breath, but he mastered it. He just smooth moved his way into ownership of this song.

And, of course, ‘Glorious’ was glorious. Stephanie Mabey had no idea, when she wrote the song, that somewhere in the future a man would come along and make her song come alive. It’s happened, and we are all witnesses of it!

David had the crowd in control and barely breathing. This man, in finding himself, has created a new crowd of followers. There was no screaming and hollering during his songs, afterwards was a different story. It’s what we’ve dreamed of, and discussed in the past. Let us hear ‘the voice’ and feel the music while he is performing. In slowing himself down and nurturing his needs and his talent, he’s gained the real respect that he deserves. I just can’t get over what I witnessed Saturday night. It was so beautiful.

Yeah, it was worth the squished in the crowd moments…. you have to understand where I’m coming from on that. At my tallest, I’m under 5 foot tall, and large, fast moving, crowds can cause some real apprehensive moments. There are times when I just won’t deal with it. But, then there are those times when I just suck it up and go with the flow. Saturday was one of those times. :D

David Archuleta ~ Twenty-Four and There’s So Much More

Posted by djafan on Monday, January 19, 2015

David+Archuleta+0101

I saw Neil Young in concert in Frankfurt, Germany during the 70’s. It was in a gigantic gymnasium, everyone packed tightly together sitting cross-legged on the floor, (yes, sitting). Kind of like a relaxed mosh pit. The lights dimmed. A hush descended. Then this unassuming man slowly ambled onstage as though he was just wandering around and ended up there by accident and proceeded to blow us all away. Half the concert was with the band. The last half was just him sitting on a stool with a guitar and harmonica strapped to his head.

Neil Percival Young is still touring to sold-out concerts at the age of seventy.

I chose these two songs to share because I love them, and because the lyrics in Old Man: “Twenty-four and there’s so much more” and Hey Hey My My: “It’s better to burn out than to fade away” seem to sum up what Neil achieved in his lifetime and capture best what I hope for David.

Imagine in Paris ~ DAVID ARCHULETA

Posted by sandybeaches9 on Thursday, January 15, 2015

Paris est Charlie, Je suis Charlie,… I am a free man

Charlie (1)Charlie Brown in mourning over the loss of lives after the attack at the Charlie Hebdo magazine which was named in reference to Charlie

After unimaginable tragedy struck Paris last week, the city had the eyes of the world upon it much like after the shocking events that took place in the cities of New York, Boston and recently in Ottawa. As they said then, Paris is the world today as it represents us who join in solidarity for world peace. It was said that these events will become common place events, but there are those who will not allow it to go on for generations. It is really about the decaying relationships between religions that generate wars and all that they say they stand for, when it is social psychological attitudes and the lack of respect for mankind that fuels the rages.

I watched intently as the days unfolded and then over 40 world leaders including kings and presidents came together linking arms in a solidarity march that will go down in history as the decisive moment exemplifying that we must stand together against the aggressors. The strength of world peace commitment was strong in Paris both then and now.

FRANCE-ATTACKS-CHARLIE-HEBDO-DEMO

A Parisian: “I had heard the news about how huge the rally was in Paris this weekend. I had read the reports about what it was like, there on the ground. But until I saw this, this guy turning around his own stereo speakers, to play John Lennon’s Imagine, not just in his apartment, but out the window to the crowd below so they could hear it, until I saw his video of the crowd hearing him do that, I did not really understand how big it was until then”.

credit: PandaInside

There amidst the crowds of millions of Parisians who had gathered for the rally, I spotted a large banner that recited lines from John Lennon’s iconic ‘Imagine’. Parisians looked to John Lennon for inspiration in their darkest moment and broke into song. My thoughts went back to the stage where David once stood, singing the same song, reaching out to everyone who felt the need for world peace. We heard it and his singing related easily to any one of the tragedies that has taken place since then. I can wind the film ahead in time and in my imagination see David singing to the people who value world peace above all else.

There is a place in music now for someone as musically influential as John Lennon, one who is looking at the state of the world and giving what he has to aid world peace.
