David Archuleta ~ Invisible Children 25 Hours Of Silence Event

Posted by djafan on Monday, April 25, 2011

Invisible Children

How it Started

In the spring of 2003, three young filmmakers traveled to Africa in search of a story. What started out as a filmmaking adventure transformed into much more when these boys from Southern California discovered a tragedy that disgusted and inspired them, a tragedy where children are both the weapons and the victims.

After returning to the States, they created the documentary “Invisible Children: Rough Cut,” a film that exposes the tragic realities of northern Uganda’s night commuters and child soldiers.

The film was originally shown to friends and family, but has now been seen by millions of people. The overwhelming response has been, “How can I help?” To answer this question, the non-profit Invisible Children, Inc. was created, giving compassionate individuals an effective way to respond to the situation.

Before becoming a celebrity, David Archuleta was a supporter of Invisible Children. His involvement  introduced me to this cause. I remember the leather bracelet he wore on the Bonnie Hunt show, the Invisible Children t-shirt Dawn gave him that he wore on several occasions and his willingness to share with anyone who asked what they stood for.

‘Break the Silence’ Details from INVISIBLE CHILDREN on Vimeo.

Event Details:

After 25 years of war waged by Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army, Invisible Children is getting loud… by shutting up. But after the silence ends at 8:00 PM on April 25th (in every time zone), it’s going to get even louder.

Break the Silence is happening in 18 cities across the U.S and will mark the end of the Invisible Children community’s 25 hours of silence for 25.

Break the Silence will unleash the voices of the thousands who are going silent and who have raised at least $25 to fund The Protection Plan – Invisible Children’s work to protect innocent civilians from LRA violence. (More information can be found by clicking here: Protection Plan.)

We’ll end this with two quick acronyms: RSVP ASAP. The cities will fill up, so now that you’ve raised your money and committed to 25 hours of silence, get your name on this list and we’ll see you at one of these cities.

Schedule of the night’s events:

April 25th, 2011

6:30PM – Doors open

7:30PM – 30 Minutes of Silence Begins

7:55PM – Break the Silence Video Begins

8:00PM – Silence is Broken

8-9PM – Celebration with new IC Media, Ugandan speaker, IC Roadies and musical performances

This message from Lauren Bailey (Invisible Children Team) via AFS

Come Monday—you name the price $$ for the event, all goes to ending a 25 year long war.

I just flew in to sunny Nashville, the birds are chirping and sky a’ clear blue. While taking in the scenery I hopped over to Allen Arena to check out the set-up for Monday’s Nashville 25: Break the Silence Event and got PUMPED.

This event is happening in 3 days, and it’s going to be amazing, I promise.

I want all of you to be able to come and experience Evelyn (our Ugandan speaker), performances from David Archuleta & Landon Pigg, as well as IC’s newest media…released yesterday.

But I know some of you are a little concerned about the raising $25 part. So, here’s the deal. Those of you who raised the $25—we love you. Thank you for your commitment, support and trust. You WILL be honored at this event.

However, I know a lot of you are college students with minimal incomes and maybe some with debt. We still want you to come be part of this monumental evening.

So, all of that is to say: You’re invited, don’t freak out about the $25. It’s suggested, but your attendance is more important.

YOU CAN STILL COME IF YOU HAVEN’T RAISED $25.

We will be taking donations at the door. If you haven’t RSVP’d then you can just drop your money in the donations bucket, and enter. You name the price ($5, $25, $100, you decide).

Just come, soak in the bliss of people coming together for a just an honorable cause—plus some sweet music and media.

However, do us a favor and stay silent. We’re breaking the silence at 8PM—please don’t be that kid who tries to do so beforehand. Thanks and can’t wait to see you there!

-Lauren + the Invisible Children Crew

David Archuleta Vlog!

Posted by djafan on Friday, March 18, 2011

Article by Bebereader

Hah! David’s newest vlog may appear to be a St. Patrick’s Day vlog to some, but to diehard fans, it’s much more. In fact, it was packed to the gills with so many random implications, things we’ve been patiently waiting to hear. Were you sitting on the edge of your seat, afraid you’ll miss something? How many times did you watch it?

Wishing us a Happy St. Patrick’s Day, he stood to show us that he has his green on, wearing a Gremlin t-shirt. He just wanted to check in and tell us that it’s been a crazy week!

Honoring the victims of the Japan earthquake, he points out how technology gives immediate access to show us exactly what is happening in Japan. He tells us to be mindful of others who may be going through hard times and encourages us to donate even a small amount. If you can’t do much, at least keep them in your prayers.

It’s been a really good week, he says! I’d really like to know what he really means by ‘really’. He’s working on some songs but it’s a matter of finishing them. He compares himself to the mad scientist on Jimmy Neutron who’s never able to finish anything. You know, it’s all a matter of narrowing the songs down, he says. Gee David, all you have to do is say the word and we can help.

He goes on to say that there’s been a lot of phone calls this week. David, I hope your cell was ringing off it’s hook! It’s his last day at home and wants to spend time with his siblings. Last day in Utah? Where are you going, David? “Going going back back to Cali Cali” and excited for tomorrow.  Did you catch that sneaky grin? What’s going on in Cali Cali in the next few days? Writing more songs? Signing with a label? Interviewing new management?

The part that excited me most was when he talked about a foundation and of needing to get that foundation built before building the tower. The tower??!! I know what a foundation is but was more than happy to look it up since he sounded serious.

Definition of FOUNDATION

1: a basis upon which something stands or is supported
2: funds given for the permanent support of an institution
3: an underlying base or support; especially, the whole masonry substructure of a building
4: a body or ground upon which something is built up or overlaid
5: a woman’s supporting undergarment
6: a cosmetic usually used as a base for makeup
I’m assuming David means #1 #3 or #4.

Excited for today, he’s looking forward to letting us know what’s coming up, and will talk to us guys next time. He said “See ya.”

What a tease he is!@!@E#@@

So, what do YOU think is going on back in Cali in the coming week?

The Other Side Of Down Gifting Campaign ~ David Archuleta

Posted by djafan on Monday, February 28, 2011

A Giving Heart

In a time when things are changing fast
And we need a light to shine
A young man comes upon the scene
And holds a steady line

With a heart that’s pure and a smile of gold
He sings of love and hope
Tells all who’ll listen to not give up
Though the future’s uncertain, he knows

Our trials and tribulations, he says
are a way to grow and learn
And the pain of today can be joy tomorrow
as our lives continue to turn

Don’t give up, It’ll be okay
We all have days we cry
But the world is full of wonderful things
If we have the courage to try

In a world where we may feel alone
a young man flips the coin
and shows us those less fortunate
in help we need to join

He says to look outside ourselves
to find those most in need
And give to them with open hand
for this our souls will feed

Poem by MT

Hello Voice Team!

We want to make sure you’re aware  of  the latest Angels For A Cause campaign to promote The Other Side of Down by bringing uplifting and hopeful music to those kids and their families dealing with medical heartache.  We had discussed doing something like this in chat one night but hadn’t figured out the logistics and then this campaign appears, it’s a perfect fit!

See below for all the details from AFAC.   There is also a link to Angels For A Cause on the right sidebar under Charities David Supports.

Music for Smiles~Touching the Hearts of Children with David’s Music ~

Angels For A Cause is proud to announce our brand new project!! We all love David’s new CD “The Other Side of Down” and it truly lifts our spirits on a daily basis when we are feeling a little down. Well, its time to share David’s music with children who need a smile and positive messages through song.  We started by contacting all the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and got a HUGE response from lots of hospitals that are SO EXCITED to receive David’s music! We have over 75 hospitals participating in this project and probably one close to where you live! They are going to use the CD’s for various things such as prizes for games, a present for a child’s birthday, a gift for a child going through a tough procedure, music therapy for anxious kids, discharge gifts and more! “Things are Gonna Get Better”  would be the perfect song for a worried child, dont you think?

So, we are all here to support David, right? Now, you can support his music while at the same time giving a sick child hope and inspiration! This project is very easy! All you have to do is purchase David’s TOSOD CD’s and have it shipped to a CMN Hospital of your choice! You can purchase 1, you can purchase 10! Its up to you! You can send to one hospital or many hospitals! This is a great way to share David’s CD as well and create new fans! We did some research and David’s CD’s are available right now for a low price online through:(prices and availability may vary)

1) Amazon $11.97 (free shipping over $25)

2) Target $12.99 (free shipping over $50)

3) Walmart $10 (WOW!)

4) Barnes and Noble $10.97 (free shipping over $25)

Or, you can purchase one at a store near you and have it shipped from your house. Or maybe you picked one up in the last week to support David and you can share those!!

Once you ship a CD to one of the hospitals below, please email your name, state, and hospital you shipped to as well as how many CD’s went there to archangelcause@yahoo.com. We are going to compile a list and present to David at a later date!!! We will also update you throughout the project to let you know which hospitals are getting the CDs so far, what hospital is in the lead, and what hospitals we don’t want to forget!

THIS PROJECT WILL CONTINUE AT LEAST THROUGH THE WHOLE MONTH OF MARCH!!!

Be sure to tweet what hospital you have sent your CD to and spread the word!! And leave a comment below!

In the 2nd post on the home page is a list of all the hospitals and full addresses. Be sure to include the contact person and/or department if there is one in the address when shipping so the Cd goes to the right place!!

Let’s make a difference in these children’s lives and share David’s beautiful uplifting music!

I want to give a BIG thank you hug to the 3 women who helped me make this project possible! Thank you to Jana, Stephanie, and Sharon!!

Please be sure to include the

Spanish Chat!

On a side note I want to thank all who participated in the Spanish Chat.  There were many chatting and many viewers.  Many countries were represented, Honduras, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, and Mexico.  Forgive me if I missed your country but the chat was fast and fun, giving me some practice with my own Spanish.

David love is alive and well in the Latin world.  They love and comment  on all things David just like we do. ♥  And our English speakers did a great job in jumping into the conversation.  It does give an appreciation on how to use Google translator on the fly, not easy. :)

David’s Latina fans asked if we could do this again and I said sure!  So we will be having Spanish Chat on Fridays starting at about 6pm Pacific Time.  I let them know that I won’t always be there by that time but that they can get started if they want, it was a unanimous yes!  The regular Saturday Chats will continue as usual.

A Night at the Grove With David Archuleta

Posted by djafan on Friday, January 21, 2011

When the tickets for MoTab were being distributed I had already secured 4 tickets for The Grove in Anaheim in Tier 3 for daughter, granddaughters and myself.  Not the best seats but ok for David’s concert on December 29, one day after his birthday.  Still flying high from my trip to Salt Lake I couldn’t believe I was going to see David again in a span of two weeks.

A few days before the concert my niece came to spend a few days with us for the holidays and wanted to go with us to the concert.  Thanks to my lucky stars, Zully from Honduras took to Twitter to sell a ticket, a VIP ticket no less in Tier 1, Row E!  I took it for guess who?  Meeeee!  I had made peace with the fact that I wouldn’t see David up close this time so this was such a sweet turn of events.  I waited for Zully at the box office and was starting to panic because there was no sign of her.  Suddenly Monica2112 from Twitter, who I’d told about the ticket situation, came walking up to me with another girl, Zully!  She was in line for the Meet and Greet!  We had crossed paths, so thank you Monica!

With ticket in hand I was now able to hang out and meet with David fans in VIP area, some for the first time:  Vermeer, Marthazz, Seattle_D, Karenkid, Starrynites, NP1107, Nancy and a sweet lady who sat next to me during the concert (if you’re reading this please tweet me @djafans or shoot me an email through The Voice email). Great times and now it was time for the concert.  In the audience sat fans of all ages, entire families.  He is gaining in the guy and college age girls; they were representing!

The Set List

Something ‘Bout Love,  The Other Side Of Down,  Touch My Hand,  To Be With You,  A Little Too Not Over You,  Parachutes and Airplanes, Angels,  My Hands,  Elevator,  Pat-A-Pan,  The First Noel,  Complain,  Falling Stars,  My Kind Of Perfect,  Stomping the Roses, and as a finale, Crush.

The concert was magnificent!  David exploded onto the stage; he burst out like a flash of lightning, sparkling like only he does and there he was.  I stood for most of the concert, dancing, singing, whistling and watching him intently, trying to remember every word and emotion that came to me as I watched him perform.

I’ve seen David perform live several times but this was by far the most intense, passionate, energized, sensitive, confident and powerful I’ve ever seen him.  He owned that stage at The Grove and commanded the audience effortlessly, with a glance, a gesture, a smile.  The power in his voice, the tenderness, the tone, deeper and richer than ever before, the new runs, the emotion pouring out to us, making even those old songs sound like new.  When he sat at the piano, those of us on the left side of the venue couldn’t see him and he apologized that we wouldn’t be able to see his face.  Can you believe that?  Thank goodness for big screens which did enable us to see his beautiful face.  I’m happy to say he was drinking lots of water (but I couldn’t secure his water bottle this time, darn it!)   and sweated profusely from start to finish.  For the first time I’ve ever seen, he actually took the towel handed to him and slowly wiped his brow, face and chin to the delight of everyone.

Wrapped up in his magic, I was feeling euphoric with a swelled heart filled with joy and gratitude.  What a blessing it is to get David and his gift.  He ended the set with “Stomping The Roses”.  He told it to us and made us understand it!  The energy, the sassiness, the flirtatiousness…WOW, he is a master at this I tell you.  He left the stage but the applause was thunderous and out he came to close the show.  I’m so glad that some were able to catch at least the audio so I may relive my experience, but boy do I miss the videos!

Stomping the Roses clip

Crush clip

As we walked to the car, I thought my evening was over.  But I noticed a crowd gathering behind the venue and needless to say we ended up at a fence, waiting for David.  In an hour’s time there were a few hundred of us waiting.  Then the band came out and said “Bye” to us and told us David would be out shortly.  The screams let us know when David appeared and he walked along the fence, Sharpie in hand, signing, giving high fives and beaming.  You could see how happy he was to see us.

I took out my phone and ipod, started to record and before long he was in front of me signing my ipod!

David signing my ipod.

My granddaughter and niece took off their shoes and he signed those, too.  BTW my niece is a new convert telling all on facebook about David and his amazing voice and her wonderful aunt!

Signing my niece's shoe.

It was a great ending to a perfect evening.  It’s unfortunate that there are no videos from this show to capture the growth of this remarkable talent.  Hopefully my words brought you a sense of what I experienced.
